Does anyone else find Randi Rhodes annoying?
I mean I agree with her on almost anything, but something about her really annoys me. I wish they had Al Franke, Unfiltered or Majority Report on in the afternoon drive time IMHO

I have crappy typing skills and have to do so much proof reading that I pretty much refuse to do it on DU.

5. How many of these posts do we have to see on a daily basis?
No offense, but I guarantee that if you searched DU, you would find about oh...101398756334856 posts that ask the exact same question. Over and over again. Every day, someone asks "Am I the only one who HATES Randi?" or "Who elese can't STAND Randi Rhodes?" or "Does anyone else find Randi Rhodes annoying?"

Look--if you don't like her, do what has been suggested in every other thread asking this question:

turn
the
radio
off

13. i DO turn the radio off... i wonder how many others do too...
I have never posted an anti-Randi thread but when I working at home I try to listen to her, I keep giving her another chance but I am offended at how grating and annoying she is, she is misrepresenting us with her banal uncivility and her incessant pontification.

7. I think its unfortunate how she often
cuts off the callers. Yesterday there was a guy that was saying how much he loved her, etc. She hardly let him get a word in. Cut him off, interrupted him, "corrected" him where she thought his opinion was wrong and she was right. When she was done with him she said bye and hung up on him. And this was a guy that said he loved her! This by the way was the guy talking about the SEC. You would think she'd be grateful to her supporters. But she treats some of them just as badly as the trolls that call. A real shame.

guests, and just goes on and on over the same talking points.

I love Franken, Majority Report, Unfiltered, etc. but man Randi is SO annoying... she is so high on herself too.

14. Why do people keep bringing this up?
Randi will be the person who gets the truth out in the long run. She admits herself that she doesn't have a media voice but that didn't stop her from getting where she did. You know why? Because her show has substance, not hot air like other talk shows that swing to the right. We don't need them defining our left wing spokespeople.

19. That's what happens when you're outnumbered 100:1 in the media.
You end up with people who have to make the case louder and more causticly then if we had equality in numbers.

It might not be your cup of tea, but I'd rather have her making our message than Alan Colmes....

20. I like that everyone has their own styles...
It's better than having the same cookie-cutter format all day. Randi packs a wallop and is the most brash of the Air America line-up, but that's fine. Al's good, but is generally low-key, and Randi is more apt to go on the longer ranting and raving. They both match their theme music, Al has a Grateful Deadish feel, while Randi is a more loud, guitar rock, almost heavy metalish sound. Randi can be rude to a caller or a guest, but at the same time, Al isn't a fire-and-brimstone type, so sometimes he doesn't get some of his points out with that emphatic oomph that leaves an impression.

Some people may prefer one show over another and that's great. A diverse line-up can appeal to a wider audience, as more people choose the style that appeals to them.

Given that six months ago I couldn't hear any of them, I want to keep them all.

21. Not after hearing Mike Malloy last night
telling a young, but seemingly reasonable and rational young repug (who sounded ripe for conversion to me) to "go commit suicide" and then go on to excoriate those emailing him on his blog how inappropriate that was and why one never says such things, even in intended "jest" on public airwaves. I admit getting a sense of relief from Malloy's passion on many occasions, but wonder if he cares that stunts like this could have FCC coming down on AAR. Malloy is sadly, becoming quite the bully--even if he is OUR bully and I won't play sycophant to that behavior any more than I would to O'Rielly.

So, while Randi can be abrasive on occasion, I've never seen her be so irresponsible. In fact, she seems to be converting some Repug callers in recent days with much more patience than I could imagine.

25. If the FCC is going to come down on AAR...
it won't be because of stunts like that. It will be due to sloppy use of the editing button.

In the last two weeks, I've heard Randi call someone an "asshole" and a guest on "Morning Sedition" say "fuck".

29. True, but
as one who worked years ago on a suicide hotline and recall vividly a weekend when 5 of us shared duty trying to talk down a very disturbed young kid, who ultimately freaked and took his life upon hearing a fire engine roar down the street (ironically NOT enroute to him), I know how little it takes to set off fragile people. If the FCC threatened action at such irresponsible rhetoric as Malloy displayed, on this issue, they would have had my backing.

33. Okay to AAR shows I can't stand: Mike Malloy and Randi Rhodes...
Mike Malloy seems out of his league a lot and he is lower on my list than Randi... my wife can not stand Mike Malloy and does not allow me to stream it when she is around. We both LOVE Majority Report and this convention week, MR goes an hour into Mike's time and we both rejoiced when we found this out.

She invites call ins and then talks over them.

I do admire her knowledge, however.

Franken bugs me, too. Has really interesting people on and then continually interrupts them with lame jokes. Seldom is anyone allowed to finish a statement.

24. I've only had AA for two days, so I'm no expert.
But I have to agree that she does cut off callers a bit too much. It seems like half the calls I've heard occurred at about 1 minute before the segment is over, and the caller gets about 10 words in before it off to commercial.

However, it beats the living daylights out of any other Denver talk radio. Same with 'Morning Sedition'.

One theory: No matter how liberal or conservative a man is, there may still be some subconscious fear of a strong assertive female.

Maybe the NY accent and demeanor offends?

32. I don't think its sexist, it may me regional....
I am a yes-sayer and I love other female talk radio hosts... Janeane rocks. and the gals on unfiltered (don't listen enough that early to know their names).

But perhaps it is regional.... I have my roots in the midwest and perhaps find Randi's East Coast, take no prisoners style a bit abrasive while Franken's civility (even if it is forced) is a real turn-on to me. I like his style but as another poster on this thread commented, the comedian in him some time interrupts guests to get a cheap laugh in.

Her style is such that I can't concentrate when listening to her. I think it's because she is so grating.....

I'm never home when she's on, but I suspect that if I were just listening to the radio without trying to get anything done, she would be more tolerable. However, I don't think I would go as far as saying she was likeable under any circumstances, but that's just me. But that's why we libs encourage variety:)

She has her schtick. She has a stong New York accent and attitude. If you don't like it, there is a whole lineup on Air America to choose from.

She gets great ratings and those of us who like her, LOVE her, warts and all.

At least her jokes don't fall flat like Franken's, but I don't start threads just to tear him down.

I love Randi and Mike Malloy.

Janeane and Sam or Franken may be someone else's taste.

Isn't it okay for everybody to like different things?

And no, I don't find her the least bit annoying.

I particularly don't like the fact that she dominates the conversation when she's got guests. Or callers, sometimes.

She's got a great mind. She just needs to listen more.
