Frances Update: 5AM She's getting Stronger. (WARNING: BIG PICTURE)
And She is getting angrier.

Maximum Winds of 145 MPH with Gusts to 180.
Pressure is 936MB and Dropping.

My partner's Mom is in the projected path of this thing. :(

I have to say I have never been taken aback by a Weather Image Before, but I have never seen anything like this.

At 360 miles across, with an eye 20 miles across that is just incredible.

It is far to early to speculate such things but this is beginning to feel like Camille 2.0.

I don't know how many on this Board remember Camille, but this one is starting to scare me. If I am correct, Andrew was not this Big in Size.

Please take care, my friends.

Nature is in a VERY Bad Mood.

1. I hope your SO's mom is okay. On a lighter note, I'm pretty sure if
you stapled my gloves to the yoke, I could hang glide through that.

3. Truly an Amazing Picture.
I was completely taken aback when I saw it.

It is breathtaking and frightening at the same time.

2. My huband's family lives on Eleuthera
and they still haven recovered from Floyd. It destroyed the island's pineapple industry. There's no place to hide down there. We are very worried.

5. I do hope everyone will Be OK.
I am very concerned about my SO's Mom because she hasn't contacted us and we don't know what is going on.

Has there been any update as to evacuations or anything of that nature?

8. Thank You So Much.
And may I do the same for anyone who has friends and family at peril.

I am so happy to be a part of a community like this. It is comforting to know that there is a place of support and comfort in times like these, to help us see through the troubled times.

11. Oh yes I remember Camille very well.
My parents and I drove to NY to visit my grandparents in Manhattan to escape Camille. We drove along the coast both ways. When we came back, most of the houses were gone along the coast. Cement and steel staircases led to nowhere. Entire cement foundations were flipped like potato chips and great oaks were toppled over with all the branches streatched out and leaves gone. I also remember a super tanker/giant ship washed ashore pepperd by hundreds of small boats smashed to smithereens.

We held a vodou ceremony a few weeks ago to keep the hurricans away... I hope it works. :-(

12. That sucker is HUGE
That thing can easily cover Florida coast to coast. Where the heck are all those people going to evacuate to? And one of the computer models has it crossing Florida and heading straight for New Orleans:

This could be very bad.

16. We're fucked if it comes here. We have hardly any National Guard anymore
and there's no escape from this city for the hundreds of thousands of poor folks. We all could easily be trapped here since all highways must cross vast streatches of water. The best escape route is I-10 West, but in order for Orleans Parish residents to leave that way, we must go under a train bridge - the highway dips down about 20ft below sea level.

season but hurricane. I can't swim and I fear drowning. As much as I love the beauty of the tropics and the sea, I fear the sea even more.

Stay safe.

13. Aw crap.
Aunt in Orlando. Parents on NC coast. Sister in Myrtle Beach. Where is this monster headed?

Look at how tiny those islands appear! I don't understand how any people survive when these storms pass over them...you'd think they would all be swept into the ocean!

Let's all wish it into the cornfield. (Obscure Twilight Zone reference.)
