Bobby Kennedy Jr on NPR... he rules
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 11:36 AM by kwolf68
Bobby Kennedy, Jr. is amazing.

I listened to him on NPR today and his grasp of the issues is amazing. He is extremely well studied on the facts and made no bones about the rampant cronyism with the Bush administration.

Bobby was extremely thoughtful and really seemed to make a great appeal to non-partisan people saying that protecting our environment is an American issue, not a Democratic issue.

I especially loved how he said the environmental issue wasn’t important necessarily because of the need to protect fish and birds, but how it showcases the tax-payer handouts, corporate welfare, and exploitation as a much larger problem…than just killing trees per se.

Of course there were calls. All of them were very positive, articulate and thought-provoking, but there were two naysayers.

1) Oil Guy in Texas called in complained about Kennedy resisting Wind Farms on Nantucket. Kennedy said he was against them where they were slated to sit…said to go out a few miles and he is in support. Said that he isn’t for Wind Farms in Yellowstone, etc. either. Handled the question wonderfully. Talked about ANWR here as well and Kennedy points out how a 1 MPG raise on CAFÉ standards would be the amount in the Arctic Refuge…went on to point out numbers that went a big higher (up to 7 miles per gallon) that would completely end our dependence on foreign oil.

2) And then the last call was some nutjob who said that Kennedy was “calling our some of our most principled leaders liars. Called Kennedy’s comments Orwellian (didn’t explain which ones or how they were) and basically bashed him. The most hilarious thing was this guy said Ragun put us on “sound environmental footing” and that Bush I AND CLINTON kept that going. Clinton’s environmental policies were nothing like Rayguns so I don’t know what this guy was smoking. Also got in a dig that “Kennedy flies around in his personal jet.” Kennedy said he didn’t have a personal jet.

Overall, Bobby also mentioned how the media is in for tabloid news and is completely ignoring these issues. Stated how even Republicans want sound environmental protection policies and that Frank Luntz informed the administration early on that even his constituents would have a problem with these destructive policies. So the Bush regime has been destroying our environmental laws, protection and conservation covertly.

The NRDC website supposedly has 400 some odd environmental rollbacks bush has championed.

Kennedy was nothing short of brilliant. He sounded horse (don’t know if that’s his real voice) and it was the first time I ever heard him speak (missed him at the Convention), but the guy is great…Simply freaking great.

He has a book out called "Crimes Against Nature", which I will be adding to my collection.

I'm not sure why. Hopefully he'll be appointed to head the department of the interior or the EPA in the Kerry administration. :)

It is no big deal. The dude has got it going on…EPA Chief sounds like a good plan. He really is serious about this issue and I am glad he is on our side. God bless you Bobby Jr.

3. "Crimes Against Nature"
is simply the best book of the current political season. I say that while looking at a dozen other great books I've bought in the past six months. Robert is coming into his prime.

6. The Kennedy family
has a long tradition of SERVICE not lip service, like the Bush family. If you want someone working for you and regular Americans you cant do better than the Kennedy's. I'd put their family record up against anyone's.

8. And that is why

The right has spent every ounce of energy they have degrading their name...because their ideals represent what is best in humanity.

Listening to Bobby Kennedy Jr makes you proud to be a Democrat now matter how shitty things get, because you get the sense we are fighting for what is right...
