57. Why doesn't the Kerry campaign jump on these things along with
discussing the issues. Like, the press and pundits are quick to jump on alleged "flip-flops" while painting the Bush administration as "compassionate conservatives. Well comments like _________from JOhn Gibson sure aren't from "liberals" but it must be a reflection of the conservative idea of compassion." Something like that.

43. Completely by accident.

And I've already had heart surgery!

My local cable provider sticks all of the cable news stations
next to each other. So while I was flipping between MSNBC and
CNN (and I should stop CNN too), I landed on Fox and they had
Ed Rendell in the picture... so I left it there to see what he
had to say about Clinton, got up to make myself a sandwich,
and heard this crap from my kitchen counter.

First I was so mad that I immediately switched channels, but
that's a mistake as my tivo dumps it's buffer immediately.
Otherwise I would be able to offload the clip and put it online
somewhere. Damn. Flipped it back just in time to hear the
constant meme of Hillary is getting ready to run in 2008! And
Bill would do ANYTHING to make this happen! ( See my other post
in this thread for a verbatim transcription of that crap )

Audience boos as Bush offers best wishes for Clinton's recovery

By Associated Press, 9/3/2004 13:57

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (AP) President Bush on Friday wished Bill Clinton ''best wishes for a swift and speedy recovery.''

''He's is in our thoughts and prayers,'' Bush said at a campaign rally.

Bush's audience of thousands in West Allis, Wis., booed. Bush did nothing to stop them.

59. Moral clarity! MY ASS!!
A true leader, someone with REAL "moral clarity," would rebuke the crowd like this: "Wait a minute, people. Bill Clinton and I disagree strongly about many, if not most, issues. But he is an American who loves our country and served it for 8 years. There's nothing Christian, nothing American, and nothing Republican about wishing him ill."

But does the Smirking Bastard Boy King Chimp say anything like that? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

That says it all. It's war. But we already knew that. And an awful lot of us wished Ronnie Raygun well and were touched at his passing. No more. I'm tired of turning the other cheek.

38. But AP clearly edited the story to remove the line

"Bush's audience of thousands in West Allis, Wis., booed.
Bush did nothing to stop them."

So I didn't see the event live. All I seen is the clip of
* making the stmt about Clinton and wishing him well. And
the clip ends abruptly before ANY crowd reaction is recorded.
So from the news clips you can't tell if there were cheers,
boos, whistles, catcalls or silence.

You watched it on C-SPAN live? Or somewhere else?

I don't doubt your honesty... and the AP story was edited.

SO we are left with two possibilities:
1. There wasn't any booing and the AP reported made it up and
it was corrected later.

2. There was some booing, just not where TV microphones could
pick it up... but the AP reporter at the event reported it the
way he saw it. It got on the wire service that way and was
edited later (for whatever reasons).

I don't know which to think right now.

I do know what I heard coming out of John Gibson's mouth was
one of the most unfeeling and hateful things I've ever heard
about a political figure from someone in a national news
organization.

33. Through rational thought.
I am reacting only to reading the one quote in the title post. So perhaps I missed his attitude or the context.

But just this line:
"The bad news for people who dislike him is that these types of operations are so successful"

Is not in particularly bad taste. Your mention of his family shows youa arent thinking about this rationally. There are plenty of things that would be bad taste to say to his family that arent neccessarily in bad taste in other situations.

I was simply responding to the words, which are not that bad. The joke isnt so much on Clinton as it is on those who hate clinton. The message behind the statement is "Clinton's enemies probably wish him to die." it reads as comic exageration, but even if he was serious, I dont see that this comment was outrageous, it points out the vitriolic hate for Clinton that does exist.

Now maybe I am underestimating him, but if it wasnt a joke, the the only way to read it is expressing sympathy for clinton haters that clinton is probably going to survive. Now I understand bias, but I have a hard time believing he actually wished death on Bill Clinton on the air.

If he did, it is indeed in horrible taste, I just have a hard time believing it wasnt a piece of wit. Considering that it makes alot more sense intended as a joke.

Did he really wish Clinton dead?

"The bad news for people who dislike him is that these types of operations are so successful"

about a former 2 term President of the US is in bad taste.

"

In other situations like what a Freeper rally.

And of course, Faux's viewership is predominately right wing (or the ill-informed).

IMO, sounding off is a good thing, for two reasons:
1) Rapid-response activism is a positive way to make our views known;
2) If nothing else, it would serve to remind this sort of "info-taiment" phony news that, yes, there **is** a more moderate and left-wing viewership out that eventually must not be ignored.

What the hell do you expect from the right wing fascists? They've hated Clinton since 1992 because he kicked the shit out of King George the First, and ruined the freeper's fantasy of an endless Reagan dynasty. I don't care if they hate us. 29. Ok, we all hate each other.

BUT, it's one thing for the rabble (that would be us here and
them at freeperville) to have these emotions. It's quite another
to have either party leaders and/or pundits come right out and
express them. Even if Gibson had been joking (he wasn't) it
is inappropriate. Clinton is an ex-President.

And while I heard some nasty things said here about Reagan,
I sure didn't see any thing close to that in the media.
Admittedly, Fox is media in name only, but they WANT to be
mainstream media (fair and balanced). They were way out of line
to let that kind of crap on the air.

I, for one, didn't express hatred for Reagan when he passed.

35. Regarding hate:
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 04:50 PM by sub.theory
I wasn't exactly happy when Reagan died, but I didn't shed any tears either. It was mostly a big "Huh..." as far I was concerned.

Look, I'm not going to tell you how to feel, but I really am not surprised that there are people out there that are happy that Clinton is in poor health and need of surgery. I'm not surprised that they are saying so, even on national television. I don't doubt that many on the right hope Clinton dies. That's the kind of people we are fighting.

Hate is terrible thing. It does horrible things to one's character and spirit. In a perfect world, I wouldn't waste time hating these fuckers, but well, I do. It's just he way I feel. That's what happens when you are young, angry, and poor.

Edit: Spelling. Guess I'm never going to learn to spell check BEFORE I post...

No more silent-treatment, no more taking the high road, no more Daschle-like caving in. No more. This is a battle far greater than the coming election.

When Kerry wins, the fascists will still be in place, with all their media-machinery at the ready, and they will demonize Kerry as much, if not more than they did Clinton.

It's time to take a stand, and that means activism, and that means speaking out, and that means writing and calling.

I'm not shocked at all. I see it all the time. I know they hate me, and you, and all of us on the left. I have no doubt that many of them dream of the "final solution" to the "liberal problem".

That said, you are totally correct about taking stand, and I stand corrected. Think I'll go write FAUX a nice hate mail now.

Edit: more spelling

47. The trouble is....
"that those on the right who are glad this is happening to Clinton" have a TV network.

22. Isn't it time to boycott Fox advertisers?
I mean, really, we let everything be dictated by sleazy corporations run by the likes of Roger Ailes. The result is that you wind up with nasty on-air observations like the above.

Who can we pressure?

23. Some details

This happened near the beginning of a segment with Gibson
interviewing Ed Rendell. Right after that sick remark... John
went on to talk about Hillary and her wanting to be president.

John: "We all know Bill Clinton would like to see his wife, Hillary,
President, someday. And that he will do whatever he can to engineer
this and that he has considerable political skills. So tell me,
how's he going to do that?"

...

John: Is he (Clinton) the hidden hand (of the Democratic party)?

---------------------------

double reeeetch! This is after getting Rendell on to talk about
Clinton's health issues.

54. I wrote him. He replied. Here it is...
Me:

I found your comments regarding President Bill Clinton distasteful and disrespectful. I woudn't wish bypass surgery on anyone, having had my family go through it with a loved one.

Tacky, tasteless and rude.

Him:
give me a break. i think clinton is lucky to have caught this early, and his prospects for a long and healthy life are extremely good at the moment and i wish him well. don't twist my words.
