What should I do? What can I do? (rant about homophobia)
I joined my High School's GSA ("gay straight alliance") last year. Due, in part, to the administration's extreme homophobia, our announcements are not read. Our bulliten board is constantly ripped down. Openly gay students have been harrased by teachers. A report showing that the school is overwhelmingly homophobic remains un-published, becuase showing it to people could cost the creators their jobs.

And this year is no different. Already we've been denied airtime on announcements, when the "non-school-funded" (ha!) Conservative Christian group gets airtime.

I wish to end this small rant with a question: What can I do? What should I do?

1. Get a hidden video camera.
And a lawyer.

At least that is what I would do.

3. Call your state ACLU office and talk to someone.
Document the events on tape after they happen (interview people who are harassed by teachers). The ACLU may be able to assist you in pursuing legal remedies.

6.  I personally would try to nail one of the teachers for
sexual harassment.

If anything they say comes close to being sexual in nature, it could fit the criteria. Scare the living shit out of them.

I would also contact the Human Rights Campaign, and PFLAG (parents and friends of gays as lesbians) and ask them the same questions. Even the ACLU might be able to help or give advice.

I am amazingly encouraged that you have such people at your school called "openly gay students". This shows what progress we have made, no one was "openly gay" when I was in high school, few were even consciously gay. Man you guys are brave. Whatever you do, DON'T go away.

7. Document everything.
Take it up the ladder to every plausible authority or commission of your city, county and/or state. Take all their correspondence to the media and any sympathetic organizations.

Good luck.
