President Schwarzenegger? Some GOP delegates liked the idea
President Schwarzenegger? Some GOP delegates liked the idea

ERICA WERNER, Associated Press Writer
Sunday, September 5, 2004

(09-05) 09:07 PDT NEW YORK (AP) --

There may be only one thing more improbable than the idea of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger becoming president -- and that's the idea that he wouldn't want to try.

Schwarzenegger could only run for president if the Constitution were amended -- a complicated and rarely achieved process -- to allow foreign-born citizens to serve in the White House.

But Schwarzenegger has devoted his life to doing what people told him couldn't be done, from bodybuilding to acting to becoming governor. The more impossible it seems, the more he seems to want it.

As he recently told The New Yorker magazine: "The fun part about it is to do something when everyone says it can't be done . . . This is exactly what my life always has been about."

After Schwarzenegger thrilled Republican National Convention delegates with his prime-time speech last Tuesday, many said they'd support a constitutional amendment so they could one day watch him accept the nomination for president.

1. Don't you think he would need to learn
what went on in his own country before he would try to rewrite our history????????????

2. Good idea...
Change the constitution to allow the son of a Nazi with a history of drug use to run for president. Shit, let's just make him king and be done with it.

5. I think that his past would sink him
That and he'd have to undergo a bit of 'political reeducation' to be a preferred GOP candidate. Can't have candidates to support the evils of equal rights for gay people, after all.

22. The nationals don't realize ...
... Arnold is a social liberal. And the fundies are idiots if they think they want to vote for him.

Arnold is a molestor of women, a serial adulterer, a participant in group sex activities, a purveyor of violence porn, and a poor example to good diction.

On the other hand, he's also an admirer of Hitler and a perpetrator of sadistic cruelty for the sake of personal amusement. So perhaps they DO want to vote for him.

Personally, I think Arnold would have to be "born again" in order for him to be acceptable. Maybe he could do a movie starring himself as a preacher that kills homosexuals and adulterers. That might be a good way to break the ice with the fundies.

6. Yeah, Catfight, that is well said!
Here in Norway, our prime minister would be hanged by his balls if was found guilty in treason like Bush covering up the Saudi connection of 911. In the US it doesn't seem to be a big deal. What's up with that?!?

8. The Corporate Media doesn't care about it.
We'll hear nothing about it unless one of the big news agencies picks it up.

Ah... don't you just love the smell of a free press?

17. Oh, we think it's a big deal
But there seems to be an illusion entertained that the American people have an official say in what goes on.

For the most part, we don't.

That actually made me chuckle. But only a freeper could take the ridiculousnes of that joke and attempt to turn it into reality.

At least Ah-nuld the governor. I still love his movies, but his political views stinks beyond comparison.

He should have kept his freaking day job for all I care.

But with Arnold? "oooo! President Arnold! he's a big cool movie star!"

26. It shouldn't change ..

... governer Grahmhold included. I don't give a shit.

There is an excellent reason why only NATIVES should take the office. A non-native has family/childhood attachments that can affect their judgement in foreign affairs. Our AMERICAN president should have no such attachments.

The true "Manchurian Candidate" would be someone born and bred overseas and then sent here to take over our highest office on behalf of his overseas controllers.

32. It should change
Why should a child who moved to the United States when he was one year old be ineligible for the Presidency, while a younger brother born in the US is eligible?

It's almost certain that anyone who becomes President will have some conflict of interest that may keep him from putting the best interests of this nation before all else.

While I can understand why many people here would be reluctant to a change in the Constitution that would allow Arnold to run, the law itself is archaic and should be repealed. Besides I suspect that a Schwarzenegger-Obama election would be highly entertaining.

29. If he can be President then so can I. and so can Madeline Albright.
The Constitution states none of us can be President because none of us were born in the USA. Of Arnold and Madeline, I was the only citizen from birth even though I was born in a foreign country. It seems that I should be able to run for president before Arnold. Madeline should be able to for accomplishment. Just exactly why are they pushing the musclehead? Oh I forgot. They are all Nazis. Incidentally, a regular DUer called me a racist not so long ago because I called Arnold a Nazi. Who is right now!
