What has Bush screwed up in just the last year, help me out..

I went to a barbeque this afternoon/evening and had an encounter with a raving Freeper dittohead.

And of course when I asked him what Bush had done, all he could talk about was Bill Clinton.

He did the recession was inherited, and every other blame somebody else routine you can think of.. blah blah blah.

So after trying to convince him that a guy named George Bush has been in charge for almost four years, I finally just asked him to name one thing Bush had done good in the last year.

He shot back.. 'Name one thing that Bush has done in the last year that was bad'

I was almost shocked. It was about like someone demanding that you repeat the entire 30 volume encyclopedia to them.
After telling him it would take a week to list them all, gave him the short list.

I listed below pretty much what I told him, but would like to have more for next time (and I'll make damn sure there IS a next time!)

In the last year George Bush has ..

-Screwed the pooch in Iraq, our troops are being killed daily

-Set the all-time record for deficits

-Screwed up Medicare, made generic drugs illegal and Medicare rates have taken a huge jump (btw, hey dittohead, that a HUGE "entitlement" big government program your boy Bush signed with that law)

-Cut overtime pay for working Americans

-Like a dumbass, told the insurgents to 'bring it on' and they did! Over a year after Bush invaded, in April 2004 we had more troops die than any other month.

-1 million more Americans fell into poverty during the last year of Bush

Wish I could have added more but was too pissed off

Please add any suggestions you have ...

1. pick up any newpaper...a quick scan on any given day will almost always...
...reveal something.

Although lately with the election looming, he's been too busy campaigning to continue his work of ending the world.

2. 4 million lost healthcare
1 million net job loss (with the goverment growing 600K jobs that you and I have to pay for, instead of tax paying businesses)

the rich are richer, the poor poorer

went from a 3 trillion surplus to a 5 trillion deficit

8. Whoa! 4 million lost healthcare?!

Is that in the last year, or since Chimpy took over?

I can google it later, but if you have anything handy please post it.

4 million Americans out of healthcare is worse than 'bad' .. its terrible

3. Flipper in Chief

Flip flopped on the creation of the 9/11 commission, first
opposing it, and then, reluctantly supporting it (thereby making
it a "presidential commission" instead of a "congressional commission"
which allowed Bush and his Neocon to exert some control over the
final report).

Flip flopped on letting Condi Rice testify before the 9/11 commission,
first exerting executive privilege and then not (after it was pointed
out that many NSAs in previous administrations did, in fact, testify
before commissions).

Flip flopped on testifying himself before the 9/11 commission, at
first refusing to even entertain it, then reluctantly agreeing to
a limited interview with the co-chairs, in secret, and WITH Vice
President Crashcart in attendance.

I could go on and on, but others will contribute to your list.

10. And appointed Kissinger to head the 911 commission

Good point, and once Bush flip-flopped to agree to creating the commission, Bush first appointed Henry Kissinger to head the 911 committee.

Nuff said!

4. That's a good start
Off the top of my head, I would add -

- Interfered with investigations of 9/11, including: blocked creation of the Commission until forced to comply, refused to testified until forced to do so, refused to testify under oath, refused to testify without Dick Cheney holding his hand, refused to allow his National Security Advisor to testify until forced to comply, refused to release large numbers of documents to the panel, and censored large portions of the report.

- Attorney General John Ashcroft was found to have lied to the 9/11 Commission, as stated in their published report.

- Interfered with other congressional investigations of 9/11, including terrorist funding by Saudi Arabia as documented in Senator Graham's forthcoming book.

- Refused to take responsibility for the atrocities committed at Abu Ghraib and other U.S. prisons.

- Refused to fire or reprimand the Secretary of Defense or other officials who have been shown, in court testimony, to be responsible at the very least for creating an atmosphere encouraging the atrocities.

- Lied about having signed presidential directives to torture detainees, in clear violation of international law.

- Hid the Pentagon's own slow-moving investigation into the abuses at Abu Ghraib until photos surfaced through other channels, forcing the scandal into the open.

There's tons more. I haven't even started on the Valerie Plame issue yet....

5. He has taken credit for a false recovery. Then he modifies it with
"Its around the corner"

He had stonewalled the 9/11 commission and then had thew audacity to flip flop and attend a meeting with none other but Cheney in tow.

He has failed to get to the bottom of who revealed the Plame thing.

He failed to adequately dig into the Prison abuse thing.

He has still to solve for our end game in Irag and bring it to the American People.

He has not addressed future energy needs adequately.

Nothing re the Global Warming issue even as ice bergs as large as Conneticutt float off the Ross Shelf...indicating something is wrong with our biosphere.

Nothing about Healing, only more divisiveness.

No mention of Peace in realistic terms.

Has not fired Rummy despite the prison trail leading to him.

12. Good stuff, thanks!

Lots of ammo to use when talking to these nut-jobs. Especially the 'no exit strategy' one. I have a poker buddy who has been bitching about that since the Kosovo war.

Thanks!

13. Yeah, it really was hilarious

The guy would get so worked up he would yell and scream.

Then when you asked him any questions about it ... He didn’t have a clue what he was talking about.

Actually it’s a pretty funny sight to see.

7. I would have stopped him at Clinton and reminded him that
Clinton hasn't been President in more than three and a half years. If here truly was a recession, why didn't Bush's economic policies reverse it after three and a half years? What are his sources for these outrages remarks? Make them give you their sources. I shut someone up recently because their sources were the cable news, which I told them I have real sources that aren't entertainment news, because that's all cable news is, if they would like them. The answer was that they were too busy. End of conversation, but they did shut up.

9. What was the guy's response?
Incidentally, Bush has shifted a lot of wealth to the wealthiest (the rich are getting richer) whil making everyone else poorer. He's done this with the tax code, and he's also done it just be writing checks to the rich.

This is incredibly bad for the economy.

The middle class is the enginge of our economy, and Bush is making it do all the work, while not making the rich work at all. The consequences are what you see: too much strain on the enging and it can't pull us out of the slump.

14. His response was basically nothing

He started whining and moaned, said all those things are not the fault of just the president. Then he went right back to the 'Clinton's penis did it' stuff.

I reminded him we were now talking about what has happened in the last year, Clinton left office almost four years ago.

He pretty much caved, but wouldn’t admit it. If I had another 10 items to rattle off there is no doubt he would have been toast..

I'm sure there are much more than that, so here I am asking for suggestions ...
