May 9 2001: "Cheney to Oversee Domestic Counterterrorism Efforts"
From a White House press release, May 9, 2001:

Cheney to Oversee Domestic Counterterrorism Efforts
Washington, May 9, 2001 -- President Bush May 8 directed Vice President Dick Cheney to coordinate development of U.S. government initiatives to combat terrorist attacks on the United States.
http://islamabad.usembassy.gov/wwwh01050902.html

So when you hear this fucking wicked man say a vote for Kerry invites another terror attack, remember that not only was Bush President on 9/11, but Cheney was supposed to be coordinating federal preparedness for terror attacks on American soil.

He was heading up the new Office of National Preparedness, a part of FEMA, created May 8, 2001. The office was supposed to oversee a "national effort" to coordinate all federal programs for responding to domestic attacks. Cheney told the press at the time, "One of our biggest threats as a nation" may include "a terrorist organization overseas. We need to look at this whole area, oftentimes referred to as homeland defense."

4. Yep-yet this administration disregarded President Clinton's warnings
during the installation of w--as well as the numerous foreign intelligence services reports.

FBI investigations were shutdown.

Then BFEE says it was all part of a "worldwide intelligence failure"...

:grr:

5. Consider it a warning
I seriously need to keep digging for that bit of info on what FEMA has the power to do in the vent of an attack, or other reason to declare Martial Law. It was rather frightening, especially if it's true.

I doubt if terrism is motivating Cheney and the other fascists. More like preparing for neutralizing any citizens patriotic enough to resist what the wannabe dictatorship has in mind, unless Reverend Moon decides to make his move in that King of the Mountain game these guys take seriously, at our expense.

They aren't fighting to end terrorism. Besides, Bush, his father and other domestic enemies make the "national" enemies they eventually tell us they must break. Like Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein and Manuel Noriega, just to name a few.

6. my speculation:
When Cheney took this post it was in anticipation of September 11. What he was doing was not counterterrorism.

7. Terrific find! Forward link to Kerry/Edwards immediately!!
Isn't that cute how DICK already had the "homeland defense" phrase ready to use!? Huh? And just a month later, 50 years of NORAD procedures were changed - when suddenly scrambling fighter jets to deal with off course, hijacked, or invading aircraft - had to be directed by only one man - Donald Rumsfeld!! Cheney and Rumsfeld. Didn't Paul O'Neil explain in "The Price of Loyalty" how Cheney and Rumsfeld were on the same page for everything - and Colin Powell was definitely not on the inner circle - and was aghast at the radical foreign policy changes put forward by these two PNAC thugs. LIHOP - MIHOP - take your pick! One is no less despicable and treasonous than the other!

8. EXACTLY ! ...
Cheney is the problem, NOT the solution ...

George Bush and Dickhead Cheney went on vacation in August, while OBL made plans to attack america ....

The Bush WH is the LAST faction that should be in power ....

They have already failed us ....

9. And the task force DID NOT MEET before 9/11, IIRC.
Kerry ought to be hammering away at this and Bush's vacation after the PDB.

10. Even more damning....
....can anyone find the Bremer quote from before 9/11 that roundly criticized the administration regarding terrorism preparedness? The criticism was pretty scathing.

Quotes like that one and from Richard Clarke saying that the BA didn't do much before 9/11 should be brought up now just after Cheney's latest diatribe.

13. And the task force never met
Unlike Cheney's energy task force, the records of which continue to be concealed from public review, the counterterrorism task force never met, never discussed a single thing from May until that terrible day in September.

And Mr. Cheney? If you want to threaten me again, I invite you to come and do it to my face. Leave your goons of the Secret Service behind, and we'll sort it out, man to worm.

14. Kick this to the top!
Very important info. I know there was some more detailed info on FEMA's plan for a complete totalitarian clampdown somewhere on the Plame threads I bookmarked. I'll try to find it and post it here.
