3. Saw Gephardt suggesting this the other day.
He said he is no scientist but that something must be happening to change our weather patterns. Pointed out many other weather "events" that have ocurred in the past few years (floods,etc.).

Gasp! What if the 9-11 terrorists came from Iraq!
What's that? They didn't? Then how come Dick Cheney is still saying they did?

11. GASP! What if Bush* is a gutless coward who has successfully
bamboozled a nation, exactly as Hitler did, that he was a Noble, Honest Man of God?

Oops. Already happened.

6. Scientific excuse....
The media always brings on experts who claim that this is part of a natural cycle and that periods of intense hurricane activity have existed in the past. Then, you hear reports that global warming caused by human activity will be much worse than previously predicted.

19. Well, my biology professor is very pro-environment...
...and he said today that hurricanes went through patterns between several very mild years and several very intense years. I don't know precisely how in depth his knowledge of global warming and fluctuations in climate goes, but pollution is a big deal to him (as it should be to all of us), and he certainly isn't going to downplay any adverse effects from it if he is aware of them.

7. yes
as I understand it, one of the primary effects of global warming is changing weather patterns and more violent weather. I don't know if it is creating more hurricanes, but it is helping to increase the intensity we are seeing in the hurricanes being created.

9. I think we're just in a severe pattern right
now due to no El Nino effect. When El Nino is here the hurricanes tend to move back out to sea instead of hitting Florida. If global warming causes the gulf stream to just stop, I don't know what that will mean for hurricanes, since that's why they travel the way they do. They pick up speed from the warmer water in the gulf stream too.

10. Impossible to say at this point.
Could be because of global warming. Could be just an unusual year.

But global warming is certainly occuring.

14. But Pigboy Limbaugh says Global Warming is a myth ...
and furthermore, he has scientific proof. The fat junkie has a photograph taken in Anchorage, Alaska last January of an actual thermometer which proves without a doubt that sometimes it gets really, really cold in the winter. Take that you long-haired, left-wing, pinko, commie, tree-hugger!

15. lots of links on climate change

I don't know about creating hurricanes, but I think warm water can increase their strength, I am not a scientist though..

here are some very good links about climate change:

this first one links to articles from around the world:

16. Saw a graph today
It was a map of the track of all of the Cat 3 and better hurricanes to pass through Florida over the last 150 years. From 1850-1900 there were few momentous hurricanes. From 1900-1950 there were numerous momentous hurricanes. From 1950-2000 there were few momentous hurricanes. It looks like we are back on the 1900-1950 schedule now.

18. Yeah
1851-1900 four Cat 3 or better

1910-1950 sixteen Cat 3 or better

1951-2000 five Cat 3 or better

so far we have onluy one Cat 3, Charley (Frances was a Cat 2).

Hurricane folks think that hurricane frequency will increase. Hard to ID global warming as the culprit since 1900-1950 was colder than 1950-2000.

20. Hurricanes

Computer weather models predict that the hurricanes will become stronger:

http://www.gfdl.noaa.gov/~tk/glob_warm_hurr.html

just FYI. now you can blame Bush for the weather. his energy policies have almost certainly made hurricanes worse for years to come.
