unchallenged? This is the stupidest strategy I've ever seen and my memory of poorly managed democratic presidential campaigns goes back to Hubert Humphrey.
It's not rocket science. It's not brain surgery. Here's what you do:
you turn it back around on your opponent, thereby neutralizing the issue. Example: Bush is the real flip-flopper because:
1. he opposed nation building... then became consumed with it. 2. he opposed the 9-11 commission; then supported it. 3. he insisted that "we will win the war on terror" then admitted that the "war on terror" can never be won.
flip flop, flip flop flip flop. There are a hundred more examples.
Instead, Kerry's response is to change the subject back to the economy, thereby ceding the flip flop issue to the Resident. This is tantamount to saying " I AM a flip flopper but you should vote for me anyway because....."
The truth is they're BOTH flip floppers but Bush flips 'cause he's a fool and a creep and Kerry because he really does deal with nuance and complexity. Alas, the undecideds are, and will remain, oblivious to the distinction.
Repeating something ad nauseum is not, i think, exactly what Goebells and Hitler were talking about. It must be done with some skill and imagination... both of which the dem camp has in EXTREMELY short supply. Kerry keeps repeating that this is a bad economy til even I am sick of hearing it. If you are not getting any traction you are not succeeding on this issue and YOU TRY SOMETHING ELSE.
And NEUTRALIZE the opponents "strength".
Somone tell JK, PLEASE!
