Osama Bin Laden May Be Dead, Says Pak Minister
Karachi, Sept. 11 (NNN): Three years on from his outfit’s most deadly attacks as the world still hunts for the Saudi rebel, Pakistan Information Minister Sheikh Rashid has indicated that Al-Qaeda terror network kingpin Osama bin Laden may be dead.

Addressing Meet the Press at Karachi Press Club on the eve of third anniversary of September 11, 2001, terror attacks on the United States, the minister, however, pointed out that around 200-300 foreign militants were hiding in Wana who are ‘master planners’ as they had got enough training in Afghanistan.

<snip>
Widening Threat: Meanwhile, most analysts believe there is a danger in laying too much emphasis on al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden alone when the reality of growing terrorism is more complex - and perhaps more dangerous.

Undoubtedly that (I believe "that" is a typo) the core of al-Qaeda has been disrupted. It has lost its secure sanctuary and training camps in Afghanistan and is finding it harder to organise and communicate under pressure.

1. Subtext: Pakistan says don't worry about their ungoverned regions

And don't worry about Taliban and Al Qaeda operating in Pakistan.

And don't worry about Pakistan exporting nuclear technology.

And don't worry about Pakistan sufficiently guarding their nuclear weapons.

2. So Rove hasn't yet completed Plan B
or is this the soft-sell to implement it? Well, let's see...

OBL has been dead for 2 1/2 years; we knew it that's why we were able to pull resources away and into Iraq
OBL has been dead, we always believed it and were steady and strong in our resolve. The world is a safer place.
OBL ...

Others? Anyone?

5. This is news? Maybe be dead?
He could have just as easily said OSL may be alive? He may be purple, he may have had a sex change operation, he may have converted to Judaism, he may be living in Black Gnat, Ky working at a Blockbuster Video. He may be a lot of things - I hate these "news" reports that interject "maybes" - how is that reporting anything?

And then other news outlets jump on the maybes and before you know it there is no news just wild-assed speculation. Maybe Bush is a kind and compassionate conservative who will govern better if given four more years. Nah, there are some maybes nobody will buy.

6. "Osama Has Left The Building!"
I hear that Elvis might still be alive and staying on an island somewhere near Atlantis!

"Stay tuned, for the rumors behind today's news!"

8. Frankly, information from Pakistan
has to be taken with some salt. From what I understand, the bulk of the military is fundy and Musharrif is just holding on.

9. I hope he is dead. Long dead. Then we won't be seeing
the headlines " WE GOT HIM " like we did with Saddam. They won't be able to have the grand announcement.

10. This sounds as if Karl Rove wrote it.
It's a mistake to put too much concern into Bin Laden and Al Qaeda?

Yeah....the right thing to do is go after terrorists in countries that have the most oil.
