8. Last kick for Kerry fans
I thought there was so much interest here about hearing Kerry, but apparently not.

Those who want others to see Kerry can keep this kicked (and thanks to those who have!), but I must get on about other things.

9. All that talk about Fahrenheit 9/11's powerful
Edited on Sat Sep-11-04 08:28 PM by southlandshari
footage of the Congressional Black Caucaus members' attempts to challenge the 2000 election results...

...and there seems to be virtually no interest among DU'ers in watching the Democratic presidential nominee address that same group tonight.

I don't get it.

Flame away - I'd just be happy to see this issue get some attention.

11. Anyone who would flame you for speaking the obvious...... well,
I would get tombstoned for saying what I think about that. Isn't it funny that we can be attacked, but we can't reply back in kind?

I'm *VERY* upset about the lack of attention to this.

I can't get C-Span, so please let me know the highlights!

Thanks again!

31. You can watch streaming video
at the C-SPAN web site. It says for broadband, but it doesn't hurt to give it a try on dial-up. Kerry repeats tomorrow at about 4pm.

http://inside.c-spanarchives.org:8080/cspan/fullschedule.csp
http://www.c-span.org/watch/index.asp?Cat=TV&Code=CS

Though I'd already noticed the speech listed, I appreciated the reminder. I wish I could find a transcript for you, but either they don't have one up yet or I'm too tired to see it. :) HTH.

I enjoyed what scraps I heard, but I have to admit I taped it in the background while I was doing other things and planned to listen more closely later; otherwise I would have been more involved in discussion.

32. If I were to try to "stream", my computer would crash, and I can't afford
that. I don't have any way to replace it, and can't do without it.

I'm going to mention here........ there seems to be an automatic response, when someone asks for reports about an event, or some comments on something like the Kerry speech, that inevitably that person it told to watch in on the 'net. Y'know, I'd like people to give this some thought. While there are many who can do that, many cannot, and there is nothing wrong with asking others to fill in some gaps, to recap what was said, and to answer a question or two. If we can't do that sort of thing anymore because we're so invested in rugged individualism, then we're no longer capable of coming together enough to get back our country. I had to say that, because we reallly need to look at some of our assumptions.

Thanks to all who kept this kicked, and who gave some glimpses of the speech. It sounds like it was one of his better ones. Which is not surprising....... I think a lot of times that people at the bottom of the ladder push all of us to give it our best.

Kanary, up waaay too early...... :)

13. Anyone watching now? Discussion?
Elijah Cummings' intro of Kerry was great! Cummings said directly to Kerry, "Your election may mean more to us than to anyone else in America."

May not be exact words, but it was close..

He just gave Tom Joyner thanks for inviting him to his show last week and said he would like to be a guest more often from here on out.

Now recognizing African American veterans in the audience - standing ovation!

21. He's ON tonight
Hitting bushCorp on all fronts, with no notes or crib sheets -

"the mess he's made in Iraq" - no. 1 priority

Slamming him on Medicaire (will re-do when He's elected), unemployment, poverty, vote fraud, lack of health insurance, AIDS funding hypocrisy, bad homeland security planning, ruined international relations, no action on Sudan, corporate cronyism...

more coming

25. It is a common misconception that Kerry does not talk about poverty.
I saw him last summer and he spoke very passionately about poverty at that speech. It is simply something the media does not cover since they only tend to cover specialty speeches and the media couldn't care less about poverty. He does speak of it though.

27. I've seen several of his speeches, and never heard anything about poverty
He's completely focused on "middleclass" issues.

28. Well all I can tell you is that I saw him in LA and he spoke very
passionately on the subject. He knew stats and all and spoke specifically on children and vets. This was last year. i have read other stumps where he has spoken on poverty.

29. Yes, children and vets are popular.
They all touch on that.

The rest is middleclass stuff.

None of them want to mention the cuts to the safety net. Especially Kerry, since he voted for the welfare deform.

26. Kerry was great tonight...some highlights for those that missed it..
He spoke about Bush being a divider of the country. How the nation was becoming segregated all over again. But between the haves and the have-nots. The field need to be leveled. He talked about the loss of jobs and the fact that we are one of the only truly industrialized nations to not have some form of healthcare. He touch on the fact that 1/3 of the black households live in poverty and that areas from the Appalachians to the inner cities, there was still deep poverty in this country. He got several standing ovations from the crowd.
He talked about how shrub had been so arrogant to plunge us into this mess basically leaving us to stand alone with the financial drain on the economy. And reminding the people about shrub failures. He thanked Obama for rallying the troops at
the DNC. Toward the end, he stress to the people that he needed their vote, and he asked for it. It was all very nice.

Comes on again at 1:35 and 6:00 for those that missed it!

30. Thanks for the recap!
I had been looking forward to this speech all day, but didn't get to see a lot of it live because of an unexpected (but very good) phone call at the last minute.

I'll try to record it in the early morning hours Sunday!
