16. Deon on foreign policy :
- I was against the Iraq war (I supported Gulf 1, invaded ally and Afghanistan, self defense, Iraq, false case : uraniumgate, link Al-Quaeda-Iraq, WMD how near, location of WMD,)

I would send troops in some cases, but I would be honest about the reasons

17. No specifics
I've yet to endorse any candidate right now....I'm more in the process of elimination.

I have no doubt that Dean could become a formidable candidate against Bush, but I sense in him the same kind of evasive campaigning that's typical of a politician enjoying the limelight quite too early and not delivering much on substance....It's easy to be Anti-Bush, but it's another matter trying to persuade people to throw their support behind you as the best alternative....The reluctance to be specific in identifying those differences is much more understandable when you consider that Dean has nothing to gain by outlining the issues that seperate him from the pack....As of this moment, he's free to ride out his popularity without the heavy lifting that's required to win the party's nomination....That's when the gloves will come off and we'll find out who's who.

I watched the entire rally and I was encouraged to see such a turn-out....There's no question that this man has what it takes to get people excited....He's probably the most charismatic candidate (save Sharpton) that we've got....The early endorsements by Nadler and Weicker are positives that he can build on.

Dean will eventually have to sell his platform on specifics....We know he'll repeal the tax cuts, but what gets the priority in return?

We know he was against the war in Iraq, but does he propose a complete, definitive pull-out or a gradual withdrawal over time?

One key moment came towards the end when he stated: (paraphrasing here) "We're not gonna win by criticizing George Bush alone. We have to give people a reason to vote for us...You can't win an election on negatives. Elections are won on positives"....That's clear, but he squandered the opportunity to elaborate by going back on the attack.

By the way, it'd be a great idea to place a few American flags on stage for the next rally....How about just ONE?....The "graffiti wall" doesn't inspire many undecided folks watching on NATIONAL television to take you seriously when you propose to lead the entire nation against a backdrop like THAT....I'm surprised that it didn't occur to anyone at this event to consider this blunder....We need to associate the flag with our party and do it deliberately every chance we get because the right has made its "claim to ownership" on Old Glory....Wether this is just some symbolic gesture that means nothing to some, it's not a minor oversight to MOST.

18. Did you sleep through half the speech?
Edited on Wed Aug-27-03 02:23 PM by TLM

"Dean will eventually have to sell his platform on specifics....We know he'll repeal the tax cuts, but what gets the priority in return?"

Healthcare, education, and infrastructure development to create jobs and promote a stable growth economy.

He has been real clear about what he would do, and how.

"We know he was against the war in Iraq, but does he propose a complete, definitive pull-out or a gradual withdrawal over time?"

Again he has said that he wants to phase our troops out and move the UN in. He does not support a total pull out because we do have an obligation to clean up the mess we made.

"One key moment came towards the end when he stated: (paraphrasing here) "We're not gonna win by criticizing George Bush alone. We have to give people a reason to vote for us...You can't win an election on negatives. Elections are won on positives"....That's clear, but he squandered the opportunity to elaborate by going back on the attack."

What speech were you watching? Because the one I saw had dean not only pointing out why Bush was wrong, but laying out plans for how he'd do things right... such as the prison reform and his success by six program.

"By the way, it'd be a great idea to place a few American flags on stage for the next rally....How about just ONE?....The "graffiti wall" doesn't inspire many undecided folks watching on NATIONAL television to take you seriously when you propose to lead the entire nation against a backdrop like THAT....I'm surprised that it didn't occur to anyone at this event to consider this blunder....We need to associate the flag with our party and do it deliberately every chance we get because the right has made its "claim to ownership" on Old Glory....Wether this is just some symbolic gesture that means nothing to some, it's not a minor oversight to MOST. Were you out of the room getting a beer or something when Dean said that the american flag is not a symbol that belongs to rush limbaugh and the right wingers, but to everybody?

19. Eye of the beholder?
Were you out of the room getting a beer or something when Dean said that the american flag is not a symbol that belongs to rush limbaugh and the right wingers, but to everybody?

Sure I saw it, but it would've been nice to point one out on STAGE as an example of what he's talking about...Perhaps there wasn't enough room, right?

Healthcare, education, and infrastructure development to create jobs and promote a stable growth economy.

He has been real clear about what he would do, and how.

Rhetoric....What is the FIRST point of order?...They all claim to fix everything in one fell swoop....I'm not impressed. Healthcare, education, ect are high priorities, but where does the pie get cut? Is health care a higher priority, in his mind, than education?....Vice-versa?....SPECIFICS are in order....Dean has shown a tendency to waffle and I'm just calling him on it....The Meet The Press interview revealed much about this guy that should lead you to question him before taking him so close to heart....We CANNOT afford to lose again, so let's get it right. I'll feel safer jumping on a bandwagon when I've checked out the wheels first.

Look, I'm not here to bash this guy....The questions I pose are completely legitimate and his position requires fine tuning before the primaries get here....I'm not sold on the idea that this is the best man for the job....He's got much more persuading to do.
