Happy Story from my trip to the bank and grocery store today
Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 06:22 PM by proud patriot
A total of 7 miles round trip across town and back .

get to the bank without incident park and go in .
my son waits in some chairs and is next to a couple waiting
to be seen . I come and get him after depositing
my check and the lady looks and my shirt and just loves it
asks me where I got it . I'm wearing my "I support the
troops It's bush I can't stand" shirt . As we are walking
back to my car another person approaching the bank "loves"
my shirt . We wait at the back of my car for a car next
to us to back out and leave , and that person says to us
as they are backing out "We just love your bumper stickers"
I let em know "thanks" my son says "Kerry's a hero bush is a zero"
which makes him crack up even more . I get him in the car
and walk around to my side where someone is waiting in
the car still parked on the other side of my car and this
young man says "I like your stickers too we really need someone
new" I said "yes we do be sure to vote and get your friends
to vote " he responded "Oh Yeah we'll be voting "

I get in my car and continue on to the grocery store and when
I get to the check out line the checker is talking with the
bagger about their contract expiring in couple days . I say "good
luck with that , I'll honor whatever you guys decide to do."
She then reads my shirt and says "oh I hope we can get him out of
there and put the country back on track" I told her "I'm confident
that we will . "

:wow:

The honks of support to my yard signs are increasing.
The lack of dissenting views toward both my yard
signs , my car and shirts . plus the lack of w04 signs
and bumper stickers ..Woo Hoo I'm feeling Good .

It's my birthplace, Walnut Creek, that scares the beejezus out of me.

I'm very happy in Oakland, where I've seen a total of 2 W04 stickers.

14. We're selling more this year than ever before in East Tennessee
More signs, more shirts, more bumper stickers, more buttons, more hats, etc. etc.

The Republicans are not at all happy with us because we've decided to be bold. our signs are being stolen, so we put new ones up and keep closer tabs on them. A man came into our HQ the other day and yelled at and threatened the two women working there, a 92 year old and an 80+ year old. Then he took bumper stickers and other material, tore them up, and threw them in the street display of the antique store next door. The owner of that store, a rabid Republican, followed the man and got the description of his van, thought not the license number. We report these things to the sheriff and the police, we're writing letters to the editor, etc.

"We're mad as hell and we're not going to take it any more!"

Plus, we rented a billboard close to the Interstate access ramp. It says Kerry-Edwards over the shape of Tennessee in blue. At the bottom it says "A Stronger America - A Stronger Tennessee." A billboard! Who would have ever thought that the meek, mild, overruled Democrats in our county would have ever stood up and fought back!

And boy, does it look good. I want to salute it when I drive by.

And, I live in a development that's mostly retired management people from Michigan and Ohio and they're very war cheering, Fox news watching, anti-abortion, rabid Republicans. We Democrats here usually just keep quiet and don't talk politics but this week is going to be different! We've been working the voter list, ID'd the Democrats, set up a phone bank, and are having a local meeting Wednesday night. So far it looks like we have 150 people attending. I can hardly believe it. And they're all thrilled to know that there are other Democrats around.

Oh yeah, things are different, alright!

30. My East Tn experience:
I live in a rural area of East TN. I was putting my groceries in the car when a senior lady approached me and said in a quiet voice, "I like your bumper sticker." Since I also have "Live simply so others might simply live" and "If you're not outraged you're not paying attention," I asked her which one. Almost in a whisper she pointed to the Kerry Edwards one. She asked me which county I lived in (Hawkins) and said that I was lucky, there were a few more Democrats there than in Grainger County.

Where do you live, SharonAnn?

35. Which East Tenn office
SharonAnn, which East Tennessee office did you have this rude nasty repugnican visitor? What day and time did they stop in? We are putting together a security detail for our Knoxville office (planned for weekends) because similar things have happened in the past. We are just going to put a big fella near the door on a stool with a "Security for Kerry" t-shirt on. He'll just make sure ignorant rednecks like this don't come into the office to cause any harm (tearing up or destroying merchandise) AND to keep these really honorable god fearing church going men from scaring the crap out of our elderly volunteers (who want nothing more than to be called "baby killers" by an idiot in a rebel flag t-shirt).

7. Let me add my happy story.
My house is tucked into the Reed College campus in Portland, Oregon, and my neighborhood to the North is heavily decorated with Kerry signs. This brightens my morning commute, especially the thumbs-up exchange I have with the Dem' who sits on 39th every morning. Armed with his lawn chair, Kerry signs and voter registration forms there he sits every morning.

Today I took a detour through the neighborhood to the South, the affluent Eastmoreland area. I honestly didn't know if I would see a Kerry sign at all, but low and behold in about a fifteen block drive I saw over thirty Kerry signs and just two *. My favorite was an immaculately groomed brick bungalow with a Kerry sign on the lawn and in the front window a "When Women Vote" placard. I know that the Re-pugs aren't even bothering with distributing lawn signs in Portland as it is a lost cause, and Kerry might not win the vote in Eastmoreland, but he is certainly well represented.

My congrats to the hard working neighborhood canvassers, you have made a lovely green neighborhood look even more beautiful with those splashes of "blue".

11. Proud Patriot, we here in Orange County are
"coming out of the closet", too. The bad old days seem to be easing here as well. I don't have the guts to put a sticker on my 57 Chevy but I have a Kerry yard sign and my house has not been egged yet. My neighbor's house got that treatment in 1996.
There is a rally in Orange on October 9th, and I don't recall that happening before.
Finally, the Orange Curtain is lifting!

31. The breathing is MUCH easier up here in West L.A. and Santa Monica.
But I'm glad to hear that the Orange Curtain is lifting, Carla! I went to UC Irvine, and we thought of ourselves as this little island of liberalism in the middle of a vast plastic, over-developed Fascist Island plague. Good to hear it's changing! They DID bounce B-One Bob, I must say, which is to their great credit. Now, if you could just get rid of Dana Rohrabacher...

which is largely Republican, yet I have seen very few pro-Bush bumper stickers and no yard signs. I haven't even seen flags on cars lately, not that flying the flag is bad, but on car antennas it usually indicates support for the war. (support for the troops goes without saying.)

21. Mine not as good. sigh. San Diego County here.
I've seen a total of two K/E stickers. One on the road, the other on my neighbor's car across the street. No yard signs here. Association doesn't 'allow' them. aaarrrrgggggg. On the positive side, I haven't seen any */c stickers, signs or buttons.

Wait, did see more K/E stickers in the theater parking lot during
F 9-11. But that was to be expected.

Anyway, today my 86 year old mother (voting Democrat for the first time in her life - boy, THAT was a project!) and I went out for a 'girls day' of shopping. Both wearing our Kerry buttons. I figured at least ONE person would say something, even if it wasn't nice. Not a word, and we hit at least six or seven different places. I even had extra buttons to give away if anyone asked about them.

The only good they did us was at Barnes and Noble. The local 'Repuke Ladies Club' or whatever they were calling themselves, were registering people in front of B&N. They had a life size cardboard cutout of * - thank God I hadn't eaten yet. I truly would have :puke:
Anyway, they were going after every person who even got close to the B&N front doors. But when we walked up, they stayed away. lol.
So, even though no one asked about or asked for a button, I found one thing they are very good for - repuke shields! Wear a K/E button and it wards them off.

25. If the Association won't allow
yard signs, what about putting the signs in your window?
I think they'd have a hard time defending a regulation about what you can use inside your house.
Good thing I wasn't with you on the B&N trip. I'd have engaged the Repuke 'ladies' - or picked up a handful of registration forms and told them I was doing my best to sign up more Democrat voters. That along with asking them why they weren't handing out enlistment forms.

I'm seeing A LOT of "W-04" stickers- many more than the Kerry stickers. My husband said that there was even a group of * supporters with signs at the freeway exit near our house the other day. In Pasadena and Burbank, I see more Kerry stickers, but way too many * stickers. I do get lots of thumbs-up from other drivers when they see the anti-*/pro Kerry stickers on my car

27. We just got home from a 3000 mile ride
I saw two b/c* bumper srickers, and Colorado looked like a little nazi freeperland, but there were still more Kerry/Edwards stickers.
In Arizona, in the Navaho nation, there were Kerry/Edwards signs everywhere, and over in New Mexico in the very conservative part of the state where my father lives, a Kerry/Edwards sign along a busy hyway no b/c* signs.
Down in Taos, there were Kerry signs, bumperstickers everywhere, but I'd forgotten how liberal Taos was, if ever I have the opportunity to relocate that's the place.
Over in Oklahoma, I'm sad to say it looks deep red, we came back on the blue hyways, so we saw many small towns. Just as I was explaining that it was red country down there, there pops up a Kerry/Edwards yard sign and many local dem candidates.
It's still pretty red down in the southwest corner of our state, and there are large b/c* signs along the road, but, we did see a Kerry/Edwards fence sign as well.
Here at home, there are some yardsigns for the moron*, but, just down the block there is a K/E yardsign, I need to go down there and talk to them. I have my bumperstickers, DU and Kerry and a sticker on the front door, but no yard sign.
All in all though I've seen more support for Kerry, I don't pay attention to these polls, just putting my nose in the air it smells like victory.

One of our projects is quilts for wounded soldiers. Someone asked, "How long will this project last?" One of the ladies said, "ask Bush". In this generally conservative bunch, most just nodded and looked grim.

29. Things are looking up lately for Kerry/Edwards
The more mud-slinging I hear, the more it makes me think the "other" team is getting worried. I read in Democrats.com that the polls that came out today are pretty much bogus, and they were doing the same
scare tactics during the Gore campaign. It seems that lately John Kerry has been hitting some pretty good notes, and they want to distract his supporters. :bounce:

I have not seen one Beelzeshrub sign or bumper sticker, but have seen several Kerry/Edwards. There was a festival in town two weeks ago, and the woman who worked at the Kerry/Edwards table that was set up there said there was a long line at her table all day long. They were giving out buttons, bumper stickers, etc. She said that the workers at the "other" table were very lonely.
