Why do they still flog the $38 billion Cal deficit when it isn't true?
From Wolf Blitzer's interview with Gray Davis:

"BLITZER: At the same time your critics…are pointing to mismanagement on your point. They point out—and we’ll put some numbers up on the screen—that when you took office in 1998, there was more than a $4 billion surplus in the California, $4.4 billion California surplus, but there is now a $38 billion deficit. They say that’s extraordinary, extraordinary mismanagement that warrants your recall.

DAVIS: First of all, there is no $38 billion deficit. I signed a budget a couple of weeks ago. It is balanced in the year we’re currently in. We do have an out-year problem of $8 billion. But we’ve made great progress going from $38 billion to $8 billion."

How come it was up to Bob Somerby at the Howler to bring this out? I was actually stunned when I read this today here:

This is beyond spin or whoredom. It is incompetence. Why do the supervisors of these dodo birds not run them off for sheer lack of professional performance?

:grr:

2. Is it $38 billion or $8billion deficit ?
I recall that someone had pointed out that the Repubs in the CA legislature decided they could work with the Democrats after all - after they were assured they would get a recall vote. And they work out a budget for next year with an $8 billion deficit. Where was Wolf Blitzer and the media? They were too busy sucking Arnold's pecker to notice...

How many hours of programming is there for "our" side?? How many opportunities are there to "refute the lies"??

Z E R O ....

so they go one their merry way,, yukking it up at Taco Bell about how "Ahhhhnold is "winning"...(no one mentions the fact that a Taco Bell big kahuna is afilliated with Accenture of Florida voter purge and now the BBV scandals)...and why should a fast food joint even BE involved in a statewide election anyway???

and they yuk it up about how Ahhhhnold may just run a campaign totally devoid of substance.. Isn't THAT a grin and a half ???

It's all so disheartening :(

8. Maybe we should state the "Davis" deficit vs the "Bush" deficit
and point out that neither is factoring in the costs of the war in Iraq.
