Is Russert Republican, you think? Is he biased?
A friend was telling me he gets a lot of info from Russert. I told my friend that I like Russert, but I think he's Republican and sometimes seems biased to me. * agreed to a one-on-one interview with him, so that speaks volumes (we know how much * is adverse to speaking with anyone not on his "side").

So does anyone know if Russert is Repub? Does he seem to have a conservative bias sometimes to you?

(My friend's point, BTW, is that according to his news sources, Kerry is doing terribly, and Bush will probably win. So we got into a discussion about our news sources.)

3. I like Russert
a lot of folks here don't.

My only beef with Tim is that he tends to suck up to authority, whether it's red or blue.

4. I thought I had heard during the last election that Russert
is a registered Democrat.

Sometimes I think journalists who are Democrats are the worst kind -- they try so hard to show that they're not biased that they end up being RW shills!

When the proctologist exams Shrubbie, the first object he has to clear out of the way is Russert's head.

He is a TOTAL FASCIST TOOL!!!

If you need details, merely go to the Daily Howler and search for Timmy. Somerby will give you an earful.

The "registered Democrat" bit is merely a ruse, a sad anachronism from a time when he could have been more like his dad, instead of choosing to sell his soul to Satan. John O'Neil is a Registered Dem too, he claims. So is Zell.

6. If you watched the Mitt Romney/Shannon O'Brien debate, I think you would
conclude that, atleast in 2002, he was harder on democrats. He is part of that whole Imus kiss-ass gang with Chris Matthews and Mike Barnicle though, and they've drifted to tepid support for Kerry more than Bush.

10. He is a reistered Dem, who used to be a lawyer for
Cuomo. That is where they found him.

That may be why he is harder on Democrats. But that is also why I am harder on him.

16. I know what he USED to be
which is why I know what he is now.
A lot of people used to be a lot of things, like young and idealistic and principled.
Then they start climbing the corporate ladder at GE, become Jack Welsh's pet, and sporting Bush buttons under the lapels of their tuxedos at glittering media galas, and asking Hillary Clinton if she wants to apologize to the vast right wing conspiracy, for actually recognizing that there IS one (remember that question from the Clinton/Lazio debates in Oct. 2000?).
He is a Bush suck-up and solid gold Repuke now.

11. He's dem & a proud one. Spoke on Charlie Rose, working class parents who
he's very proud of.

I think he does a good job of asking objective unbiased questions
which is his job.

One of the few I can tolerate on tv.

12. So there is nothing to the story that on election night 2000
he had a Bush pin under his lapel ? And he and GE CEO Jack Welch were not rooting for Bush to win that night ? I thought there were witnesses.

18. I read about...
....the Bush pin under his lapel on election night, too. So you didn't just imagine it.

Does anybody have an idea where that info came from?

There is a quote of his somewhere about how integrity is for losers or something to that effect. I sure would like to find it.

14. Bob Somerby is an excellent resource on Russert's anti-Dem bias
A search at The Daily Howler on Russert will yield Bob Somerby's voluminous documentation of Russert's shilling for Republican power on his show--sins of omission--failing to ask follow-up questions when Dick Cheney, for example lies egregiously--as well as sins of commission. However, there is one entry in which Somerby specifically examines the question--what kind of democrat *is* Russert--using Russerts biography of "Big Russ" for clues. Somerby identifies one instance where Russert suggests that the Democratic party became the party of the "blame America first" crowd, and another, in which Russert claims that centrist Pat Moynihan's staff was infested with left-wing ivy-leaguers who loved to debate arcane socialist theory by the hour. Russert also suggests--without directly stating it--that affirmative action cost his father a superintendent's job with Buffalo sanitation.

Yeah, he sounds like a loyal Democrat, alright.
