Hurricane Ivan makes landfall, Jeb Bush weary, baffled

"It’s sad," said a weary Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. "I don’t know quite why we’ve had this run of storms."

"Entire houses were taken off their foundations and disappeared because of the storm surge on the barrier islands," Gov. Bush said. "These are newly built luxury homes that don't exist right now. That's pretty powerful."

As opposed to when old mobile homes disappear and don't exist, which is just par for the course or something.

To be fair to Jeb, I know what he's trying to say--that it's more startling to see those fancy new homes taken out than old, cheaply constructed ones. But someone poor enough to have to live in a mobile home is also going to be wise enough not to locate it on a barrier island.

13. His point is that
people who are rich enough to build fancy houses on barrier islands should somehow be exempt from storm damage, I guess.

You wouldn't realy want to stand on a jersy barrier either...

Barrier islands are formed by storms like these so anything on one tends to get a bath ever few decades (give or take, depending on geography).

Most Luxury Homes are (from what I have seen in teh DC/MD/VA area) large, ugly, cheaply constructed buildings with nice fixtures and furnature.

10. Kennebunkport got hit 10 years or so ago
and much of Poppy's house was destroyed. I remember the pictures of him surveying the damage at Walker Point. He had to do a lot of reconstruction.
