Maryland Court Rejects Electronic-Voting Challenge

From an earlier Washington Post article (can't find the link right now)

GOP Reassures Delegation: Maryland Is Winnable

By Matthew Mosk
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, August 30, 2004; 4:15 PM

Maryland Republican leaders meeting this morning to fire up the state's convention
delegates found themselves backpedaling from some strikingly candid advice Gov.
Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. offered the party's presidential nominee on the radio last
week.

During a recent morning interview on WTOP, Ehrlich said President Bush "needs
to be in the states he can potentially win. . . . He should not, in all likelihood,
come to Maryland. My advice to him is not to come to Maryland. . . . We're not terribly
competitive."

Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele said he thought he should explain his boss's remarks
"head on."

"Those comments dealt with spending money, but the grassroots operation is
alive and well," Steele said.

2. No paper for Md. anti-touchscreen voters
Maryland's highest court Tuesday rejected demands for additional safeguards for touchscreen voting machines, saying elections officials have done everything necessary to ensure the paperless devices are accurate and secure. The Court of Appeals also rejected a call to allow citizens who do not trust touchscreen voting to use paper ballots in the Nov. 2 general election.
Asked about the security of the state's 16,000 Diebold AccuVote-TS electronic machines, Lamone said, "I'm very confident they are accurate and secure."

3. This is totally outrageous
What in the fuck has this country come to? A group of voters says they're concerned about a machine that does not give allow them to see, ON PAPER, how they voted for and the court says "No. It's fine. Go away."

For the people, by the people...huh??

If there's one IOTA of funny business in the upcoming election, I'm taking my family and moving to Canada. PERIOD.
