Is anyone else as exhausted as I am with politics right now?
I guess being outraged with things is taking its toll on me. I am just fed up with this dream-like state of politics we are now in. How can this be REAL? How can this be America? The land of the free? The land where leaders stand up for what is RIGHT. Republicans control all branches of government, and the few dems still around just cowtow. Kerry seems to just sit and take The media spins and whores, whores and spins. The one or two little table scraps they throw us, like the Killian letter, is debunked even by a dem supporter who would know. I can't listen to news anymore; even NPR has been taken away from me. Liberals demand equal treatment and are branded as traitors. I just don't think I can take this Alice in Wonderland world much longer. I keep feeling like I need to leave. But I if I do leave, I will not be leaving America behind. It is America, the America of PNAC, that has left me behind.

3. It definitely looks,
like the systems rigged to me. Black is white, up is down, seems to be the story of this country.

6. I think you are righ, schance.
I need to be around more people like me in person, as well as here. I need the support. DU is a godsend to me and other thinking people, but it is not a substitute for the electric thrill of being a physical part of something good, something bigger than yourself.

5. two words
Paul Wellstone: Stand Up, Keep Fighting.

Stand Up. Keep Fighting.

This is the fight of our lives. Don't waver, don't flinch, don't stop. Give the same full measure that our patriot ancestors gave. Our battle is no less noble than theirs was. Their lives, their fortunes, their sacred honors. That's what they pledged, in order that we might be free.

7. Mel Carnahan was even closer to my heart
as a Missourian. I was crushed when he was killed. He was a wonderful governor, and had the ability to really go places. But Wellstone hit me hard too. I was speechless when I heard about it.

8. i have felt like this since the press watched him steal the election
and cheered him on. I knew then that he could do whatever he wanted with impunity; i just didn't realize how far they would take it.
Guess soon they will be arresting us just for being democrats--i really really believe it will come to that in a few years. I don't see any way we can win because it won't be an honest election

9. Yup
I go through periods of "overwhelm" and have to in some way back off. I have had one such period lately (thanks, I think, to the CBS docs debate), and even started a thread about it in The Meeting Room:

11. YES!
It's the 1984-like nature of our society, people falling for the propaganda and the daily "2-minute hate".

I looked at a map of red states and blue states yesterday and wondered just how the heck the red states could be so brainwashed that they vote against their own interests.

And therein lies the keyword: brainwashed. It's not forceable brainwashing, it's repetitive messages drilled into people's minds day after day, regardless of how stupid it is, like "flip-flopping". And there's the war fever instilled pseudo-patriotism, painting all who disagree as the evil enemy.

It's an amazing phenomenon, the result of 100+ years of government and corporate propaganda that's so perfected and believed now that the idea being sold is more important than the truth. It's all come down to how well the idea is sold to the consuming public that worships the gods of commerce, it has nothing to do with whether the idea is based in any truth at all.

Yes, I'm really sick of it and feel somewhat let down by my fellow Americans. But what's been bugging me the last few days is what might happen Nov. 2 and beyond. The election will be contested, even if Kerry wins in a landslide. America's credibility is already mostly gone, another questionable election could set off a global retreat from everything American.

12. I am completely energized. THIS is how a difference ismade
Having two kids voting in their first election and having already sent one boy to war in Afghanistan and Iraq, I am burning up at the thought that there are only seven weeks until the election, only 3 til voter reg cards must be turned in.

If you're sitting around feeling useless and isolated then kick yourself in the ass and go get useful and social. If you're watching FU(X) news all day ( picking at the scab of it) you are being brainwashed. TURN OFF THE TV.

That is all.
