"Pataki makes secret assurance to fund GOP programs he vetoed"

By MICHAEL GORMLEY
Associated Press Writer

September 22, 2004, 6:10 PM EDT

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Republican Assembly members who helped block Democrats' attempt to override Gov. George Pataki's budget vetoes are working out a plan to restore the governor's cuts to public libraries -but only in Republican districts.

The Republican governor has provided similar assurances to Republican Assembly members for restoration of aid he vetoed for a Southern Tier prison and for a downtown Rochester revitalization effort, the assemblymen representing those districts said. All said the assurances were not a quid pro quo for their votes that helped blocked overrides of Pataki's vetoes on Monday and dealt a blow to Democratic Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.

Silver said Pataki is in "wholesale veto retreat." He said Pataki was engaged in a "unconscionable wielding of partisan, political power."

1. I hate pataki and hope this gets out so New Yorkers
can see what an ASSHOLE he really is!

I remember pataki's face on tv in 2000 shouting and foaming at the mouth about how we had to stop counting the votes..so the worst president(sic) in history could have four years to almost destroy our Country..but the bastards haven't done it yet..we're GOING TO TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK!

2. Pataki won't serve another term.
NYC is not exactly conservative and they hold most of the population of New York State. The post-9/11 paranoia and mad scramble for "strong republicans" is nearly over....the people of NY are going to be plenty pissed with such partisan actions.

5. AAARGH!
:grr:

Pataki is such a @$#%@&!*@$. Always has been, always will be. He's an unethical, partisan, greedy little bootlicker who exists only to promote his supporters over everyone else.

How the #%@$& did he ever convince the majority of NYers to put him in office? And how did he manage to do it repeatedly?

:argh:

6. MONEY! And he has some
"liberal programs" that I've heard people like..and he's pro choice and I don't know what all else..just that he's everything you said, too!

Hopefully he's out in 2006 and Eliot Spitzer gets in..someone with a backbone..
