Dean, Perle to hold foreign-policy debate

Thursday, September 23, 2004
The Columbian

PORTLAND - Recent presidential candidate Howard Dean and former defense official Richard Perle will debate American foreign policy on Feb. 17 in the 23rd annual Tom McCall Forum.

The public affairs forum, sponsored by Pacific University, will be at 8 p.m. in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.

Dean was governor of Vermont from 1991 to 2002. His grass roots campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination mobilized voters and transformed political fund-raising.

Perle, a political commentator, writer and adviser, is a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research. He was assistant secretary of defense under President Ronald Reagan and chaired the Defense Department's defense policy board in the current Bush administration. They will debate American foreign policy after 9/11.

SNIP..."Previous forum debaters have included Molly Ivins, William Kristol, Bill Bradley, David Gergen, Ralph Nader, Newt Gingrich, Ralph Reed, Alan Dershowitz, James Carville, Mary Matalin, William Safire, John Sununu, Pierre Salinger, Jesse Jackson, Mario Cuomo and Dan Quayle."

4. He has been doing a lot of speaking that is not to the choir lately.
He says that is what we have to do, take the message to the opposition. He goes to very right wing leaning colleges to speak as well.

7. Thanks for posting!
I have bookmarked to watch Chomsky later.

Dean has been our saving grace! I'm so glad he his active and plans to keep on working for this country. He is our best chance of getting more progressives in government.
