My Iraq Solution
Reassemble the remaining members of Saddam's Republican Guard. Tell them to spread the word among the Sunni Saddam loyalists that they should demand that Saddam's name appear on any election ballot. Arm the old Saddam guard with the necessary fire-power and plan to have all American troops leave Iraq on the eve of the election. Help the Saddam loyalists rig the ballot boxes and provide air support if necessary from our bases in Saudi. Release Saddam after the last American is out and let business return to normal in Iraq.

P.S. Make Saddam agree to pay the US Treasury for all the perfectly good, abandoned Humvees that Haliburton left on the sides of roads which only needed a tire change or some gasoline.

1. As terrible as this idea is
Edited on Sat Sep-25-04 10:47 AM by creeksneakers2
The U.S. and Allawi have sort of tried it. Allawi offered to let many of the Baathists back in power. Allawi also reached out to the other militias, and tried to get them to join him. The basic deal the U.S. offered - Stop killing American troops and you can take over. We'll even pay you.

Allawi and the U.S. didn't get many takers. The deal was a disaster in Fallujah. The co opted forces joined the other side.

I was very angry about all this. All these people have been killed and all this money has been spent, then Allawi and the U.S. were willing to let it all go to put the same kind of system in power? These militias are thugs and will never support democracy. The only justification Bush still gives for the war is that he thinks it will help the Iraqi people. The plan to turn the country over to Baathists and thugs shows he doesn't care about that, either.

2. Hardly a taunt at my own
It was sarcasm directed toward this administration and how disastrous things have turned out. Most of us could see it coming. The truth is that the buttheads of Bush and Cheney would probably prefer to have things back the way the were with Saddam in charge. They just can't say it aloud.

3. Here's mine.
Have Bush resign from his current unappreciated role as president of the USofA, endow him with Iraqi citizenship and let him run for President of Iraq. All of those joyful Iraqis longing for American style corporate democracy he told us about would undoubtedly elect him overwhelmingly. He would have plenty of oil and could invite his Texan cronies over to extract it, and he could hire a bunch of jocks to come over and give him some teams to own. Not to mention his own country full of religious fanatics and subservient women just aching to know Laura's secret recipe for chocolate chip cookies.

4. Aww shucks....you one-upped me.
I should have known that there was a better idea out there. I never can see the grand picture. You win the day, my friend.

5. Mine: Announce a specific date when the coalition will pull out!
Promise the Iraqis we will set up training schools for military and police, but it up to them to recruit people to be trained. We will pull out all troops and sub contractors as of that specific date, and the country is yours! It is up to them to take advantage of the offer.
