Foreclosures double in two Iowa counties since '00
reading in the news yesterday that bank foreclosures on houses has doubled in Linn County (biggest city is Cedar Rapids) and tripled in IOwa City (home of U of I) since the year 2000. The last few years Cedar Rapids has seen it's unemployment rate stay in the 6-8% range while Iowa City has stayed around 4% or less. Combine that with the housing boom, all these new developments going up I was surprised that foreclosures had increased so much.

So are they sure we are in a recovery?

would have provided a link but the only paper I found the story in wouldn't let me access the story online without joining and I don't read their site enough to want to pay for it.

not sure if Linn County did or not.

both counties went for Gore, Johnson by almost a 2 to 1 margin and the state actually went to Gore by a whopping 1%.

3. Iowa in 2000

Gore 638,517
Bush 634,373
Nader 29,374

Iowa was close, but it went for Gore ever so narrowly.
