Why won't they march in straight rows so we can shoot them?

Remember the Brits complaining about those low-blooded Americans who refused to battle in straight rows at Bunker Hill?

That's the Republican complaint about the Middle East. We've got this perfectly oiled war machine and if we could just find a batallion of terrorists marching in straight lines through the streets of Fallujah and Sadr City, by jove victory would be ours.

It's just not manly, the way those terrorists keep lobbing RPGs without so much as an introduction or an exchange of white gloved challenges to a duel.

But let's just stay the course, old chum. If we can't recruit, we'll draft a big enough force to shame those insurgents into proper formation. Pip pip! Tally ho!

Edited on Wed Sep-29-04 01:08 PM by shylock1579
our country's PATRIOTS kidnapped, tortured, and raped, just like (and worse than) the insurgents. You don't see that in the history books, do you.

6. So, Reagan was right when he compared the contras to them?
The continental army, that is.

I don't know enough about the revolutionary war to dispute what you stated, but as you said, I've never read in any book, history textbook or other, that the revolutionary army kidnapped, tortured and raped to achieve their goals. Unless you count the institution of slavery as part of their actions, that is, since at it's core, that's exactly what slavery was-legalized torture, kidnapping and rape of africans.

7. The only pop-culture reference I've ever even heard was during the movie
"the patriot," with Mel Gibson. They make a vague reference to him torturing and slowly killing the French at Fort WIlderness.

3. Who the heck trained them?
Let's find those sick people and kill 'em! Oh wait a minute, we did! Let's just settle this training and arming issue peacefully if possible!

5. The Redcoats are now wearing camouflage and driving Humvees.
Still trying to fight WWII or repeat the glorious victories over mighty Panama and Greneda.

Bunker Busters, Abrams tanks, and such other high-tech toys are useless against guerillas.

The "war" is lost. As usual, instead of admitting it, they blow up more things and kill more civilians in frustration.

8. It's easy to tell when you've started fighting wars of empire.
This is what all imperial forces face. People here just accept that this is what "war" is now- it's occupation. It's resources. Everybody just accepts it like good little Romans.
