A malevolent strategy is being employed by the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. Rich Lowry, John Fund, Tucker Carlson, Byron York, Blanquita, Coulter, Jonah Goldberg, yadda yadda yadda.
It works like this:
1. Promote the lie that Bush haters are just as hateful as Clinton haters, and
2. Spank the press for not characterizing criticisms of Bush as partisan hate.
3. The strategy is very sneaky and cynical.
4. Calling critics of Bush "haters" makes Americans less likely to consider the criticisms valid.
5. Americans dislike raw partisanship. If the GOP can portray Dems as being just wildly partisan, Americans will dismiss Dem message. This is a blatant attempt to innoculate Bush against the firestorm that gathers at his doorstep.
Here is the rebuttal:
Democrats do not criticize Bush for shallow reasons. There is righteousness and moral authority in our fight to protect our precious bedrock American principles now under attack by Bushco.
One man-one vote The balance of powers The independence of the judiciary An informed electorate (no secrecy, no media intimidation) The rule of law -- evidence and due process Equality under the law Self-determination The sanctity of the vote Preservation of our earth and environment
We criticize Bush for reasons of POLICY. Not for sheer personal hatred or the imposition of our ideology on an unwilling public.
