Poll question: Is America an empire?
The question was asked, are we a real democracy? My opinion - of course not, we're a plutocratic empire. Always have been.

What say you? Is America an empire?

(Bonus question: if yes, will we fall? If yes, when?)

we've been doing it since the 1800's - ironically the damage to the enviornment and citizens of developing nations as a result of corporate greed and development is as much a fault of european business as it is american business. but your right.. the strangle hold the plutocrats have is pretty overwhelming.

on edit: i don't see a major collapse or fall in the future, but definetly a major humbling. i believe the republic can survive the narrow minded aspirations and goals of our current leaders.

4. Yea they got the shaft alright
right in the path of the transcontinental railroad and cattle barons - a real shame. but the same trajedies occur today and unfortunately its the result of the west as a whole, though u.s. biz intrests definetly leads the pack.

for her to give up her rule. She knew her people would be slaughtered, and gave up her throne, rather than to watch her people be killed. She was put in house arrest, which is where "Aloha O'e" comes in.

I cannot hear that song without tears.

Pat Buchanan has the right idea on this one. We are an empire in denial. Our government inherited the remnants of the British empire but our people have not the will to maintain it so our leaders do it covertly. If only the American people only knew what was being done in their name.
