Howard Stern to join SIRIUS Radio in 2006.
He's had enough of the RWers crap and is moving to Sirius Satellite Radio in 2006.

Howard Stern to leave for satellite radio

Newsday.com

October 6, 2004, 10:23 AM EDT

Howard Stern will be leaving his syndicated talk show on Infinity Broadcasting Corp. for a deal with satellite radio provider Sirius beginning on January 1, 2006, Sirius and Stern announced today.

Sirius didn't immediately disclose the exact size of the multi-million dollar, five-year deal. But the company did say Stern only would need to generate approximately one million subscribers in order to cover the costs of the deal. Total costs of producing the show, which would run in every market across the country, is estimated to be about $100 million, according to figures in a news release.

On his radio show this morning, Stern said that as part of his deal, he will control the programming on three Sirius channels, one of which will be a premium, pay channel. Right now, Stern's syndicated show airs on WXRK-FM 92.3 in the New York area.

"I've decided what my future is," Stern told his millions of listeners today. "It's not this kind of radio any more."

3. Did You Hear His Speech This Morning?
I had his show on almost by accident. It was a long and eloquent story beginning with his history with radio, the change in the regulatory climate, and how it sapped his enjoyment of the show. At the same time, he praised Viacom and said they had stood by him and done everything possible to accommodate him in the new environment.

He then discussed the arrangement with Sirius, including programming responsibilities for three stations, and said he wanted to establish a completely new media free from controls, and finally had the mean to do it. He's bringing a lot of people with him, including "some he's had difficulties with in the past." He felt reborn with the new challenge.

If you forget for a moment that he's discussing the ability to interview porn stars and use the F word, it was quite moving.

What's even better is that he very openly wants to destroy Clear Channel. It is a personal vendetta for him.

5. He's really stuck to his guns.
He sounds very charged about this. I hope Robin, Artie and the whole crew go with him.

He sounded very happy about this.
