I saw a really offensive bumper sticker today.
I was on my way home and was behind an idiot in a red pickup. His bumper sticker read "Say no to dumbocrats." I had to turn off then so unfortunately, I was not able to get in front of him so that he could see my Kerry/Edwards and MoveOn.Org stickers. But of course, I am in the red state of Georgia and in my neighborhood there are a lot of redneck Republicans. I live in a mobile home park and three houses down someone has a Bush/Cheney sign in their yard. If I put a Kerry/Edwards sign in my yard, I know the park management would tell me to take it down, since they are all Repukes.

a bumpersticker that had a peace sign and it said "the footprint of the American chicken."

And this was in Mass!

14. Peace at you
Really, if you're for Peace you're a chicken?
So it follows then:
if you're not for peace, you're for war
if you're for war, you're there fighting it
So what was this bumper sticker doing in NE?

Got to love them. I bet they couldn't rub two brain cells together to make a cohesive thought.

At least you are a sane voice in the wilderness that is clueless Georgia.

BTW, you have every right to put a sticker in YOUR yard. Don't let them scare you. Two of my signs have been vandalized but I just keep putting more out. I like to piss 'em off that way.

edit: spelling error

35. What I can't figure out is that
the Catholic Church has come out strongly against the death penalty in any situation and the war in Iraq. Yet you'd never know that by the way too many Catholics are so pro-Shrub.

And I don't recall those politicians who voted for the war and who vote in favor of the death penalty being refused communion or threatened with the possibility of Catholics being told not to vote for them.

40. Catholics who support Bush* are a mystery to me, but then anybody

who supports Bush* is a mystery to me.

I think a lot of it is about money; specifically, not wanting the government to take too much of yours in taxes, just the old-time fiscal conservative Republicanism. That doesn't mean they're stingy or money-grubbing. Republicans I know personally, and like, give money to charity and many do volunteer work besides. Though they may think Bush* has handled some things badly (no fiscal conservative he!), they don't trust John Kerry to do a better job. Keeping America safe is probably a big factor in that.

Simply put, my Republican friends and acquaintances are not freepers or morans, even though they support the same candidate as the freepers and morans.

41. Welcome to DU, Mindful Monk! A lot of people misunderstand

the Catholic stance on voting for a pro-choice candidate.

"There was a pamphlet at our church a few weeks back that suggested that if both candidates offend Catholic values, the only moral choice is to abstain from voting. I pointed this out to our pastor, made my case that abstention was immoral, failing to do something to HELP when it's possible to do so is sinful, Jesus taught this clearly on several occasions (parable of the good Samaritan, for one). So he let me put out a flyer about the Vatican's statement that it was OK to vote for Kerry."

Good for you -- I also disagree with the idea of abstaining from voting. Aren't all candidates human and therefore flawed?

Glad to have you at DU! :hi:

46. Thanks! And yes, you hit the nail on the head
"Aren't all candidates human and therefore flawed?"

Precisely. If we wait on voting until we are a presented with a candidate who fully embodies the teachings of Jesus Christ, we will never, ever vote. Since it's not possible in this world to make things perfect, we are obligated to at least try to make things better. Shirking that obligation is contrary to Christian teaching and common sense.

19. It's very odd that they'd call us dumb...
Considering that they seem to be ignoring the truth and the facts. I work with a bunch of them and NOT one of them has watched one minute of either debate. Not one of them has read one page of the 9-11 Commission report. Not one of them has any clue about the Plame indictments and not one of them has a friggin clue who Halliburton is or anything else. They call us dumb, huh? Yeah, right.

Well, for a couple weeks now, I've been fantasizing about running around with a black magic marker and writing in "Ignorant, truth ignoring idiots" on Bush Cheney lawn signs so they'll say "Ignorant, truth ignoring idiots for Bush / Cheney 2004." I wouldn't do that because I actually feel bad for the ones who wallow in stupidity.

... such as:

"Bipartisanship- I'll hug your elephant if you kiss my ass."

"Three purple hearts trumps two DUI's"

"Doing my part to piss off the religious right."

"Four years was enough for his daddy."

"Don't give me that right wing crap."

"Don't pray in our schools and I won't think in your church."

"Pro life? That's fine. Now get one and stay out of mine."

"11/02/04- the end of an error."

"Buck Fush."

The usual reaction from repugs is to stomp on the gas and gesticulate wildly, especially if it's a huge SUV. Fun fun fun.

Etc. etc.

(These are spread over two cars, and I still have a box full I don't have room for.)
