60 Minutes -- Good report on life in Bagdad -- Iraquis
Not about soldiers, about everyday life in Bagdad for the Iraquis.

"It's worse now than it was with Saddam"

"We never had terrorism before the occupation"

God, what have we done.

How to get the Merkin people to understand this!!

1. More quotes of Iraquis
"THis is a country under invasion. This is not a liberation."

"There is high fever, and there is death. Saddam was our high fever. The occupation is death."

7. feeling so helpless and shivering too, and crying my eyes out
BUT, I tell everyone I know, what I know.....
and there are very few people that don't agree with me when their brain kicks in....

the really sad part is, too many just don't give a fuck... hey, they're dealing with what us westerners deal with in our cocoons...

8. "If the Americans can make it better, do it now. If they can't,
just go and leave us alone and let us work it out ourselves."

There, she said it.

For those who still insist on the Pottery Barn solution.

*THAT'S* what the Iraquis want!!!!

Now, do we listen to them, or continue to FORCE our will on them??????

Are you listening, Kerry??

9. How can junior, Cheney and GOP party look at themselves in the mirror?
It is all about OIL MONEY and POWER. But on Sunday these same cretins talk about love in the name of brotherhood.

11. How is this a "good report" on life in Baghdad?

Let's not be too ghoulish in our desire for news reports that undercut Kerry's opponent.

I'd hate for that thread subject line to represent DU in some news story.

13. IT WAS WELL-DONE!!!!
The only critical post...... you must LOOK for something critical to say.

If there is no compassion, please, find another thread.

This one is for concern for the human race above all.

15. No, I didn't have to LOOK for something critical to say.
It just sprung to mind. From where I know not.

I *would* say that I allowed myself to totally ignore the context -- and somehow just assumed a context of spinning how the report was good for the Kerry campaign. (Maybe too much cross-thread reading; I don't know.)

My apologies. Sincerely.

(Off to do some reading comprehension exercises.)

20. I thought it was sarcastic
I was expecting a post about good things in Iraq. Then it wasn't, so I figured you were using "good" in a sarcastic way. Now I see you meant good in the normal old good way. So maybe it isn't a critical post, just a communication problem.

14. butbutbut...
tha' conservative caller to air america said that he knew someone just back from I-rack who said everything was just peachy over there with lots of I-rack-es saying how they love Americans and being liberated an' stuff...

(Anyone but me notice that every conservative 'knows' someone just back from Iraq who says everything is going great, but there are no conservatives who just got back willing to say it themselves?)

16. Merkin people do understand.
I hope they understand we have our own Saddam. We have the opportunity yet to dump him. I hope the Merkin people understand the rules are just window dressing. We have a big fight and my gloves are off right now.

17. Well, our gov't did have a plan after all
Put the country into chaos so neocons & friends can weave in the military bases and siphon off resources. The administration had a "plan for the peace" no matter what the Kerry campaign rhetoric. It just doesn't have anything to do with democracy or winning hearts and minds.

At least Kerry is now telling crowds that the administration lied. That's a start.

Did you hear the recent Franken interview with the woman who's an economics writer? She traveled to Iraq with the goal of writing a book about the reconstruction. She had the idea to put a pic of a construction crane on the cover. They never could find one until the day before she was leaving. But it was only lifting a billboard advertising honey being imported into Iraq. A tragic irony.

18. Wish I had heard that interview! When's the book coming out?
Did she change her focus for the book?

Y'know, I know that the Catholic heirarchy have been sending gross pictures of aborted fetuses to Catholics, and I think it's only right that they should also send pictures of babies and children killed and maimed in Iraq.

I think tonights program on 60 minutes should be REQUIRED viewing for all who are registered to vote!

19. "When's the book coming out?"
I think it must be out and I can't find it. But so far I only looked at the Air America site since they carry books by authors that are interviewed. Let me check around and get back to you.

I think she did change the focus. I caught the interview on the Sundance channel replay last week. So this is fairly new.

21. Thanks for checking! I suggest you post the info here at DU.
Sounds like one of those that may not get too much attention.

I just saw more of Bill Moyers speech on the Equality forum, and have decided that's a really good one to share around, also. And, yeah, there are some posts I'm glad I don't see. ~~gigglesnort~~

Sure wish I got Sundance! I hope it gets really big fairly fast, as well as LinkTV. We desperately need some balance.

Thanks again!
