I've always loathed freepers, but now it's personal.

A week or so ago, I went to see Democratic Senate candidate Barack Obama speak at my university. Here I am, writing a news story on the event for my newswriting class , looking for quotes to use that I may not have written down correctly.

My Googling took me to http://209.157.64.200/focus/f-news/1237324/posts
(Notice it was indexed by IP only, no URL)

I ignored the text on top and did not recognise it as FR, since I make it a point not to go to that trash pit. I read the story and eventually came to the comments:

"What a moron! Makes you wonder what they are teaching at this allegedly "Catholic" university."

At this point, I thought "oh no, I've stumbled across a RW site. They're so hateful."

I scrolled on down to find people calling my school "3rd-rate" (I can most certainly assure you it is not) and generally spewing their RW hate all over the place.

"These people sound like classic freepers," I thought to myself.

At that point I scrolled back to the top and noticed that I literally WAS at freerepublic. Nevertheless, from this day forth I shall use the term "freeper" with even more scorn. How dare they spew their bile at my school like this!

The university president received DEATH THREATS from fundies (most of whom have nothing to do with the university!) because he brought Obama in. When I transferred to Benedictine, I was worried about the political makeup because it is technically a Catholic university. My fears were unfounded, though - when Alan Keyes spoke, he drew a crowd of around 400 to his fundie hatefest.

Obama brought in over 1300 very enthusiastic supporters who went so far as to boo the pro-lifers when they wouldn't shut up during the Q&A session.

Benedictine has one of the greatest diversity records in the country and I've been even more proud to go there since I saw freepers dissing it.

So to wrap things up, piss off you hate-filled, ignorant freepers!

1. Oh man, you should see the other thread here that talks about how
those incredibly fine specimens of walking, talking excrement are saying about Christopher Reeve. Made my blood boil.

6. Welcome to DU.
Kudos for caring enough to look beyond the surface - and arrive at some truths. Yes, it can be ugly - but never accept anything that doesn't ring true, wherever it comes from. You are the future. It's in good hands.
