4. I think it will. Poodle is under a thousand times more heat than *
The British people evidently don't like being cast as 21st Century Nazi Germany - while Americans (led by FAUX News) simply don't give a shit!

2. I Expect Blair Will Survive For A While
It appears that he has too many sheep in his cabinent that are willing to be sacrificed to keep him in power unless something unxpected crops up.

12. If it is anything like NZ....
and our Parliament is based on theirs, so I would say it is, all that needs to happen is for a majority of the Labour party caucus to decide to remove him as PM. He won't be kicked out of Parliament, but he would be forced to sit on the back bench, which is more embarassing.

To have him completely removed from Parliament would require him to actually resign.

Unlike the US, the Prime Minister is not an elected position in the Presidential sense. The way it works is that people run for Parliament, and if they win, they get a seat. Each party also has a caucus made up of senior party MPs, and for the party with the most seats, that becomes the Cabinet. The Cabinet then selects someone to become PM, DPM etc. So if Cabinet decides that Blair is pulling down the entire party, they can "punish" him by removing him as PM and selecting someone else. Once they do that, he becomes just another MP.

I can gaurantee you that right now there are machinations going on behind the scenes as people try to get enough cabinet votes to replace him. If someone succeeds in getting those votes, its bye bye Blair. However, I am willing to bet they are going to wait for a while so that Blair can face most of the heat, and then once all the damaging revelations are out, THEN they will oust him. Otherwise, the new PM would walk into the position having to face new allegations that could topple him or her as well.

The basic idea is this: the Labour party needs to set it up as the Labour party saving the country from a rogue PM, rather than having it appear that the Labour party itself has gone rogue. To do that, Blair has to take ALL the heat.

In my opinion, Blair is already gone. His replacement has already been selected, but he is being kept on until the right moment in order to sheild the party from the fallout, rather than taking the party down with him.

9. The Labour Party has to have someone who has the courage to
say in a very public manner, "for the good of the Labour Party, Tony Blair must go" and they need to do it now. Every day that goes by with Blair bringing Labour down is an opportunity for the Tories to make gains in public opinion.

and unfortunately they are almost all in agreement that he will not resign and not have to since he has a rock solid majority of the vote...

13. There has to be a replacement available.
People like Blair don't grow on trees. Even if Iraq goes completely haywire, the British might keep Blair. He might even be able to admit he made a mistake with Iraq and have his polls go up.

The only way to get rid of Blair is to get another Blair who is not tainted the way Blair is. If such a replacement exists, I certainly have never heard about them.

15. Is Brown good enough?
Brown's name gets bandied around, but everything I have heard or read gives me the impression he is far from another Blair. Brown might replace Blair if Blair left for some reason, but I don't get the impression Brown could dislodge Blair. Maybe I have the wrong idea about Brown, though.

20. I will wait for poll results...
on the Labour Party instead of on Blair. If the Labour Party # go into freefall, Blair will be forced out. If they hold steady, labour might try to ride it out.

22. I agree!
It is just that I haven't seen any polls focused on the labour party yet, they all seem to be on Blair. I can't see the British people complacently accepting having been lied to but, geez, these days, who knows?

23. The inquiry isn't done yet and Campbell is already gone..
...it may take a little while but someone WILL step forward and tell him to resign...

As vehemently opposed to this illegal war as the vast majority of Britons were his demise is almost assured.

If the Labour party wants to win the next election they will HAVE to get rid of the poodle...

24. I think we are better off with Blair in office just now
because it keeps the "you guys lied to us" story alive. Once Blair goes there will be no more investigations into "did he say 45 minutes? Where did he get that info?"

Also, when/if Blair goes the Brits will not pull out of Iraq. At least not right away. They will feel a moral obligation to not leave things worse than they found it. Maybe they'll go looking for Saddam and offer him his country back?
