GM Crops Failing In The Fields
A new study published today by Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace demonstrates that the growing of GM crops in Spain is causing contamination of organic crops, producing low yields and its benefits are grossly overstated. The report is also highly critical of the Spanish Government for failing to properly control or monitor the situation. <1>

Spain is the only country in the European Union where GM crops are grown at a commercial scale: since 1998, an estimated 25,000 hectares are planted each year with a genetically modified corn variety (called Bt176) sold by the Swiss biotech company Syngenta. The corn has been engineered to resist the European Corn Borer, a potentially harmful insect for maize.

I am glad these crops are failing! I wonder what the longterm effects are of eating this crap? I go out of my way to avoid it as much as possible - to the point of buying imported foods even.

Interestingly enough, I was at the local health food store the other day and I told them to "clean up your store". The seemed baffled by this and I told them that they need to be rid of all Kelloggs products and other GM'd food products.

Their reply I found astounding! It seems that women/people on WIC vouchers can only buy GM'd food with WIC! Somehow, the idea of feeding a newborn infant formula that is GM'd makes me pretty disgusted, I don't know about others! My question becomes, are the "powers that be" :grr: trying to kill us all off, starting at the beginning of a life that was in need of help? Scarey thought isn't it? To hell with the poor eh? :nuke:

Here is a link to a list I have printed out about which food are and are not GM'd:

http://www.truefoodnow.org/gmo_facts/product_list/pf-list.html

and for those skeptics, I provide this link to Organic Farming in Ontario:

http://www.gov.on.ca/OMAFRA/english/crops/facts/01-027.htm#define

Just say NO (if possible) to GM'd food and vote for Dennis Kucinich for President! He wants to get rid of this crap once and for all!

:dem:

6. "My question becomes,

FOR THE LIFE OF ME, I CANNOT "GROK" HOW IT EVEN REMAINS A QUESTION!!!

Forgive my caps. Look around you. Folks getting offed left and right. Laid off, pissed off, blown off, make NO mistake, they are being OFFED. Our grandparents on fixed incomes, unable to "afford" the medication they require and being CUT OFF from a cheaper Canadian source. Our veterans since the late 60's are living on the streets, uncared for, our mentally ill, are released into the wild with no access to medication that would allow them to be productive, our children's nutrition and education are cut out, those near and dear who believed the "Star Spangled Banner" myth or who just wanted to better their lot in life are returning MANGLED, psychotic and angry- having their needs ignored. MURDER? SUICIDE? WHO COUNTS THE DEATHS? So the *cabalis FUNDING NUKES and preparing to break ground on their "star wars" boondoggle!!! (Excuse my :tinfoilhat: but my 6th sense tells me they were blasting that nookular shit in Afghanistan...) The *misanthropistration has CUT FUNDS to AFRICA for AIDS mere weeks after folks were chased from their homes and their environs severely disrupted to make way for the landing of a *whistleass who promised help...

Get dem damn niggers off this ground so we can grab what's under it. Dey "dyin'?" (smirk) Please don' kill me!!! Haha! Same go fo die (Akkusitiv, plural! Dirk, Kellanved, seid ihr da? Woik wit me here, ich möchte gerne Korrekt sein) sand-niggers too!!!

2. Great news! Now maybe they can start to fail over here in the US
And other places worldwide. GM crops are an anethma both to real crops, small farmers, and the enviroment in general. If you are growing gardens or crops, go Google Heritage Seed Banks and join one. Mother Nature wasn't meant to be diced, sliced or patented, and if we continue doing that, it will come back to haunt us. Besides, who wants a tomato that's big, unbruised, and bright red but tastes like cardboard?

3. people who think
that eating healthy consists of some iceberg lettuce and a glop of ranch dressing?

This whole thing just grinds on me. For all the things I debate people on, this issue is so clear.
Others point to the long term effects "looking" safe. Well, that sure convinces me that we should just shove the shit down peoples' throats in a "noble" corporate attempt to "feed the world"

4. Booger, Booger, Booger. . .
You and I both know that noble and corporate in a sentence together is an oxymoron!! ;)

What's really sad and stupid about the whole GM deal is that they are engineering foods that kill the "pest" type insects. Unfortunately, they also kill the insects needed for pollination and seed scattering. Or maybe its a deliberate ploy to force farmers to by cloned GM seeds from the corporations. Never, never for me!

By the way, is your nickname based on the character in "Revenge of the Nerds"?

and the fact that I'm showing my 3 year old daughter how to stick them to the dog. <mom just loves that>

You know, I remember when we used to wait for certain fruits or vegetables to come into season. And quite frankly, I don't want a tomato so bad that I'm willing to have the genes of a fish spliced into it so it can be shipped in Jan.
