billionaires for Kerry (article)
Interesting article in slate. Essentially states that Bush's strongest support is among the paranoid rich who are afraid of losing all their money.

1. I tried to explain that..................
to my girlfriend last week. The rich are TERRIFIED that some day they'll lose their money. Regular folks like us, and even the freeps, have never had all that much money and so we don't worry that much about losing it, just making it take up too much of our time.
The RICH however, especially the idle rich, think that everyone is out to take their money away. Immigrants, Blacks, Poor White Trash, Welfare Mothers, Mexicans.............EVERYONE is out to get THEIR money. Assholes all.

4. I've just been dealing with a family where the husband is a lawyer
they own a 4 story house in MANHATTAN. They have a weekend home, the send their daughter to private school. They were in a fit because they were worried about not getting all their money's worth over a pre paid package. They didn't want to be ripped off. WTF?

2. I believe that Soros was once asked if he'd give it all away to defeat *
The answer was yes. While some millionaires/billionaires inherited or guessed lucky in the stock market, those that are smart and truly great businessmen know that they could become rich again. The others just fear being poor.

3. Reminds me of some of my favorite quotes...
The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

John Kenneth Galbraith

and

Conservatives are fearful, mistrusting, angry, bitter and afraid because they, too, believe most people are pretty much like themselves

(Don't know the source of that one)

5. Actually, the really rich are philantrophic and like Kerry much more than
George. Its the "petty bourgeoisie" rich (between 1 and 10 M) that support Bush because they're still insecure about their money. In addition to Soros, Buffett has been vocal about his opposition to W's policies.
