Lynndie England (Iraq abuse) had her baby.
RALEIGH, North Carolina (AP) -- Pfc. Lynndie England, the soldier seen in some of the most notorious photos with naked Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison, is a new mother.

Play nice.
She's had a tough year. I really blame her supervisors more than her. Troops often do horrible things in the fog of war. It's the job of officers to keep the troops in line. The failure is hers, too, but the bulk of the blame belongs on shoulder with stars and the civilians who put them there. She's just a scapegoat.

3. Quibble: I'd call her a "fall guy" -- other than that, I agree.
IMHO, no enlisted person demonstrating a pattern of behavior should ever receive a punishment any greater than the most senior field officer for their unit.

While "following orders" isn't an affirmative defense, there's no question that a pattern of criminal behavior that spans both the unit and a period of time is, beyond a reasonable doubt, a clear indication of command complicity. Thus, any punishment of enlisted personnel should not exceed that of a higher command authority.

13. I sort of thought that way too
until I saw an interview with her on, I believe it was, "60 Minutes." She was truly repugnant. Her mother was apologetic but not ol' Lynndie. She not only wasn't the least bit sorry for what she had done but I got the distinct feeling that she would have done it all on her own even without the orders from above. Hell, she even did it on her off hours, probably because she got so much enjoyment from it. She is one sick sick puppy and deserves to be put away. I'm not saying that those higher up in the chain of command don't deserve the same because they all do. But she's different from the other soldiers that were "just following orders" or those that were either to afraid to speak out or just got caught up in it or whatever. I think most of them were remorseful and/or afraid of what might happen to them if they didn't obey their commander. But Lynddie is in a different category altogether. She should server out her time in an Iraqi prison that's run by Iraqis. Let them have her because she really deserves whatever she has coming to her.

17. Military indoctrination is VERY effective.
I really don't think the vast majority of people appreciate just how effective it is.

2. Imagine trying to explain your involvement in Abu Ghraib to your own kid.
Particularly if history further focuses on her as time passes.

6. I'd say a nice lie is in order.
Though, history might not let her get away with one.

I have to admit - I think I'd have to condone lying to her kid about the circumstances of his conception!

7. Imagine Googling her mom's name
Now THAT could make for interesting discussion around the dinner table.

But, since it looks like Dad may just be in jail for a while, I doubt they're going to get a pass.

Is this how Dr. Mengele's kids felt?

10. Well, the battle has just begun
Chances are that the kid will teach Ms. England more than she
ever learned in the forces.

Were i here, i'd be thinkin' about a name change. It simply is not
fair, even to her, to be forever associated with that...
