Here's something like the device Bush had on in the debates

The RC-216 Receive-A-Cue system is a professional quality, digitally synthesized wireless cueing system operating in the interference-free 216-217 MHz band. The IR-230 induction receiver and NTC-102 neck-loop eliminates the need for visible wires going directly to the ear. With the adjustable volume control and low residual noise, this discrete earpiece is loud enough for even the most demanding environments. The dual function M-216 transmitter can be used with a lapel microphone for live cueing, or the AUX input and whip antenna can be used to send cues from a line level audio input source. Also, the AUX input on the transmitter allows for prerecorded material to be played back from another sound source such as an MP-3 player, dat recorder, or even a feed from a mixing board. When using the mic input and the AUX input simultaniously, the AUX input will automatically lower it's level to prioritize the signal from the mic input.

8. Someone ought to jam the signal with
a current pop diddy like "1985." Can you see him stumbling around up there babbling lines like "Whatever happened to sitcoms, gameshows..."

with the 70's CB radio hit "Convoy".

6. We need somebody in the audience with a 216-217MhZ receiver and recorder.
If we could intercept and record the transmissions, I'd say it would just about do in the boy prince. My guess is he still wears it, only now it's around his waist.

Btw, in the 1st debate, doubtless his earpiece gave him the names of the Polish President and others he rattled off in uncharacteristic fashion.

7. I saw an interview a while ago with Matthew Broderick
and they were talking about acting opposite Marlon Brando who had recently died. Matthew said that it was impossible for Brando to learn his lines, he just wasn't willing to take the time to study, so he wore an earpiece and had each line read to him. While the other actor said his lines, Marlon would 'act' like he was listening with great interest. He was listening, but to the voice in his ear, not the actor. Matthew said that he was fascinated and a bit repelled by the whole thing.

The earpiece thing isn't working well for Shrub in a debate. While it may help here and there giving him a reminder cue, it probably confuses more than assists. Alas, for Shrub, the chickens have come home to roost. It's too late to cram for his oral exams.

10. Malfunctions
In the 1st debate the device malfunctioned, which explains the facial expressions and the horrible verbal performance. It was repaired for the 2nd debate. I doubt if he will wear it tonight.

12. Funny item about Brando's use of an earpiece...
Los Angeles Times
July 3, 2004 Saturday
HEADLINE: MARLON BRANDO | 1924-2004;
A Hollywood Iconoclast Who Transformed the Art of Acting
<snip>
It was frequently reported in his later years that Brando used an earpiece to help him remember his lines. As he himself noted in a bylined article for the Guardian newspaper, an assistant read his lines to him into a microphone. He heard them in his earphones and repeated them. But occasionally the use of the earpiece led to confusion on the set.

David Thewlis, who co-starred with Brando in "The Island of Dr. Moreau," told Entertainment Weekly that Brando would be in the middle of a scene "and suddenly he'd be getting police messages. Marlon would repeat, 'There's a robbery at Woolworth's.' "

It was not clear whether Thewlis or Brando was kidding.
