Did Bush* invade Iraq to get Al Qaeda off his back?
Walking home from the gym, I started thinking about something I've read about bin Ladin & his beef with the US.

bin Ladin's major beef with the US is the fact that they have had troops stationed on, according to bin Ladin, holy land (ie. Saudi Arabia) since the early 90's.

We know there were plenty of reasons for Bush* to invade Iraq, one of which was to have acces to a more pro-US government in the region (I hear that the Saud's are being pressured over their lifestyle and that they may not be around for much longer). We've also heard that there's a lot of "temporary" bases, who some points out to be looking quite permanent, being constructed in Iraq.

Could it be that some wiz in the OSP thought, that if they moved all US troops from Saudi Arabia to Iraq, then bin Ladin would no longer have a beef with the US, and thus the US would be safe from harm from Al Qaeda.

And totally unrelated to this topic, I've just picked up my tickets for a event tomorrow night that will focus on how the US sees the world (keep in mind, I'm in Denmark - I have a very vague idea of how the average Joe America sees the world & the US's position in it). Not to mention, in 1½ hours, "The World According to Bush" is on TV.

Ah, gotta love media that actually have the balls to critisize Bush*.

1. I don't think that's it exactly. I think he invaded to help the Saudi
government to a certain degree. Oil was the biggest part of it, but he also wanted to get out of Saudi Arabia because there was a real danger to the royal family with all the Americans running around the place.

I think bush* and the OSP were stupid enough to think that they could invade Iraq and have it all. Instead, they got nothing but trouble. But that's what happens when you have greedy bastards and morans running the government. Anyone with any brains tried very hard to warn them, but noooooo, they wouldn't listen. They had little Dougie Feith, they guy Franks called the stupidest person on earth, running intelligence for them.

So I think yes, to a degree that was part of it. But Cheney and the rest of the neocons had this little project in their sights for years. The secret Cheney enery meetings were the icing on the cake.

2. short answer, yes. Read this
http://www.laweekly.com/ink/04/13/news-cooper.php

We invaded Iraq to keep Saudi Arabia happy, which was bothered by the fact that it's own radicals (which includes people within the ruling class) didn't like our troops being in Saudi Arabia.

So we invaded Iraq to build permanent military bases there.

You can read all about it in the above article.

3. Well, I'm glad that Saudi Arabia is happy.
No one else seems to be.
