Like other vainglorious invaders before him,Bush has seriously
miscalculated the power of patriotism and nationalism that is currently motivating the Iraqi forces that are fighting the U.S. and Britain.Until the Iraqis came face to face with Americans, they may even have entertained the notion that the overthrow of Saddam Hussein was well worth the price they had to pay to endure the killings and bombings of their cities. But once they saw that the Americans were not interested in the Iraqi people but their oil, the wake up call has gone out and the entire population is now arrayed against the invaders. Now the Iraqi people have decided that whatever Saddam might have done he is an Iraqi first and he is infinitely preferable to the Western invaders whose racism and contempt for Iraqis is on display every day.

This is exactly the situation that Hitler encounterede at the beginning of his grandiose plan to annihilate the Soviet Union.he told his generals that the Communist system was rotten and all they had to do was to kick the doors and the entire edifice will crumble.
This too may have been realistic at one time as the invaders were greeted with open arms by the Russians and Ukrainian people. But as they came face to face with the Nazis, the contempt the Nazis showed toward the Untermenschen became apparent and the Russian people's patriotic instincts were stirred as never before.Stalin then became the savior of Russia and the rest, as they say, is history.

Add to this bit of history, Iraq's own encounter with British Imperialism during the 20's,now you have an even more potent symbol of the hated imperialists as part of Bush's vaunted coalition. And the powerful image of a Saddam in captivity in his own land adds fuel to the fire.

I believe that Bush, a poor student of almost every subject he touches, is likely to get a lesson in history he never intended.By the time this sorry tale ends, and end it will, Bush and his poodle Blair will get their sorry asses out of Iraq but not before they have killed and maimed thousands of Americans and Iraqis on a needless war waged on the most spurious pretexts.

Our people who tried to stop this madness will have to pay for this with the wrecked futures of our children and grandchildren.Bush of course will feel nothing. He will either retire to his Potemkin ranch in Crawford or to his family compound in Kennebunkport and be elevated to the status of a latter day Churchill by the Alzheimer ridden media.
