If they happen to cheat their way into office again. There is no way we can do much of anything without control of Congress. Even if we have the Presidency we will be stymied just as Clinton was. He passed a lot of bills that were acceptable to GOP and most Democrats voted against them. We need to regain control of America and that means the Peoples house.

1. Unfortunately, we tried that plan in 2002...
But we got Diebolded.. Look for more of the same in 2004..

Until we focus on the TWO issues that matter, it will continue..

FIRST.... MEDIA MEDIA MEDIA

SECOND... Voting "machines"

Without the media informing the public about the voting crisis, the votes don't matter..

If the votes don't matter, we get rightwingers as far as the eye can see..

5. SoCal...please!
We didn't get DieBolded in 2002...we got Democratic party milquetoasted. Please don't become one of those apologists who blames Dem losses on everything under the sun EXCEPT the inability of the party to inspire a mandate.

8. That would be number THREE.. thanks for reminding me
OUR "leaders" stand by with their thumbs up their noses, and do nothing ...

They should be out there SCREAMING from the rooftops about the issues.. Perhaps if we had an overwhelming turnout, the sheer numbers would trump the voting issues.. We can no longer afford "squeaker" elections.:(

6. Agree... but we say MEDIA! and they don't even acknowledge the call.

Almost all the mainstream (whatever that means anymore) media are owned by corporations and they will make sure that they have their corponography going for each other. Anything that awakens the silly masses will be glossed over or avoided.
So how do we get our OWN MEDIA that looks and acts as superficial as the others so that the prole listens to it and watches it and absorbs the message about issues without noticing? Requires huge amounts of investment and intelligent programming and I don't know if we have the time between now and the election.
The machine issue is a good case in point. Here at DU almost everybody (or everybody) knows about the Blackbox issue. I talk to my colleagues (intelligent professionals) and they don't know what I am talking about (I live in Kansas so that might be part of the reason). But the mainstream media has kept this quiet.
So if these are the only two ways that we are going to be able to get enough oomph to get a Democratic congress, we are royally sol.

On edit: Your cat's teeth make me slightly nervous... they are so incongrous in that cat's face!

11. The dem leaders seriously underestimated the media problem..
They mistakenly assumed that "people would see through the charlatans".. People are gullible and they ended up brainwashed instead.. Now 30 years later, we are trying to play catch up.. MEDIA should be the focus.. NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT COSTS...

For years , everyone pooh-poohed Rush as a blowhard, a buffoon, etc.. But the fact remains..

If you drive a car and if you listen to talk radio, you ARE going to listen to righwing propaganda..

If you watch tv "news", you ARE going to see the rightwiing perspective , in ABUNDANCE..

The blatant unfairness of coverage is a given, and if nothing is done NOW, it's just going to get worse..

If you could hear the way the "radio hosts" out here in CA absolutely TRASH the dem candidates, you would be ILL.. and they do this for HOURS upon HOURS with NO rebuttal..no equal time..

People in CA are in their cars MORE than anywhere else.. It's really surprising in a way that CA is still a Dem state :)

7. I wish I knew
I was really under the impression we were going to retake the house. I was floored when we lost like we did. I am not so much a conspiracy theorist as some here but I am really beginning to wonder. I am not about to give up though. Alaska is offering up a very good candidate for the Senate. Tony Knowles. I think he has a better than average chance of winning but we don't have anyone to even compete for the one lone house seat we have. I will vote for the Democratic candidate no matter who it is though.

12. Got a question for you Terwillinger.
If we all voted Independent, would that make us just like the Democrats?

4. My most fervant hope.
A major electorate backlash causes a Democratic takeover of the House and Senate along with the Presidency.

Maybe then we can really expose the Roilist agenda and investigate all the anti-democratic actions that have been going on the past 20 years. With a new Democratic agenda, the fortunes of this country should reverse, again showing the American people which party has the best interests of this country in mind.
