Event will feature the Scranton-area premiere of the documentary, "Going Upriver, The Long War of John Kerry" Scranton, PA -- Today, Oct. 23, 2004, Max Cleland will address John Kerry's plan for a safer, more secure nation. He will focus on how John Kerry will provide stronger leadership for America here and overseas. John Kerry and John Edwards believe in a better, stronger America - an America that is respected, not just feared. An America that listens and leads - that cherishes freedom, safeguards our people, uplifts others, forges alliances, and deserves respect.
Cleland will explain the Kerry/Edwards strategy to coordinate our intelligence agencies, take action on all key fronts, stand up for security whenever special interests stand in the way, and get the needed resources to the first responders who defend America every day.
Cleland's remarks will follow the Scranton-area premiere, "Going Upriver, The Long War of John Kerry, "a feature length documentary about character and moral leadership during a time of national crisis. Loosely based on the best-selling book Tour of Duty by Douglas Brinkley, Going Upriver examines the story of John Kerry and the key events that made him a national figure and the man he is today. The film places particular emphasis on his bravery during the Vietnam War and his courageous opposition to the war upon his return.
