Bush Action Figure Recalled

Contrite manufacturer apologizes for missing weapons of mass destruction

NEWSWEEK WEB EXCLUSIVE

Aug. 20 A G.I. Joe-like action figure depicting President George W. Bush as an Elite Force Aviator was recalled today by its manufacturer after consumers discovered that the $39.95 toy did not include the weapons of mass destruction pictured on the toys packaging.

THE BUSH ACTION FIGURE was packaged in a box showing the president in his naval flight suit made famous in his landing on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, uncovering weapons of mass destruction in a suspicious-looking Iraqi warehouse. But once parents bought the toy and brought it home, they found that the box contained only the action figure of the president and no weapons of mass destruction whatsoever.

Janis Martino, 32, a mother of two in Lansing, Mich., said her son Tyler was really disappointed when he opened the toys packaging and found no weapons of mass destruction inside. He felt tricked, Martino said. You cant tell someone that there are weapons of mass destruction and then have there not be any.

Martino also said she felt gypped by the high price, saying, If there were no weapons of mass destruction, what were we spending all of this money for?

had been effective. But, yeah, this is funny.

Here's something similar, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers website with an intro video of a cartoon POWELL saying to Shrub, "We have FOUND the WMD." It goes on to a flash card thing of each Tampa Bay player, as the WMD. For some reason CNN went NUTZ over this a couple of days ago, with the wingnut guest and the CNN anchor siding against the Lib (natch), claiming that this was undermining Shrub and the country all over the world. (It takes a long time to load.)

8. "No weapons of Mass Destruction"

but the manufacturers rebuffed
the complaints by saying while
there were no WMD's included
they did include a tiny flask
of whiskey carefully tucked into
the dolls bulging crotch. This
makes it more authentic than
WMD's.

11. Don't believe this liberal propaganda!
Just because some stupid kid didn't find them in the box. I swear they are there. First you believed the UN-amateurs, now you even give jobs like this to little kids. Check the package, they are included. And even if they are not there, don't you think the guy in the box looks as if sooner or later, he will build them anyway?

15. So it turns out that the doll is a true work of art
Edited on Sat Aug-30-03 09:35 PM by Jack Rabbit
A good work of art is supposed to reflect reality in someway that reveals a deeper truth than a simple, dry rendering of the facts ever could. And so, in the end, the Bush Aviator doll has done exactly that.

The packaging implied that there were weapons of mass destruction. Once the box was opened, that was revealed to be a deception, just like the "real" weapons.

In the end, the deception resulted in the removal of the product from the market. If there is any justice, that, too, will reflect reality.

Perhaps they should market the Boy and his Dog doll. This product features the same deception -- no WMDs as advertised. In this casem it looks like the dog, a poodle, is being recalled first.

16. The manufacturers....

apologise for the lack of WMD's in
the package but have decided to
retro fit the doll with added
animation, they will include a
small black dog and by pulling
a string the bush doll will
drop the dog on a concrete
floor.

For and additional $25.00 you
can purchase a tiny first aid
kit for the dog.

17. ROFLMAO!!!!!! You made my evening!!!!!
As it announced the recall, the action figure’s manufacturer today apologized for the words on the packaging that read, “Make Elite Force Aviator George W. Bush Find and Destroy Saddam Hussein’s Weapons of Mass Destruction!”

“We apologize for that phrasing,” the manufacturer said. “But even if it was a little misleading, it was only 16 words.”

ROLFMFAO!!!!!!!!

18. THe WMD are hidden
very very well. Maybe the kids will be able to find them in a few months. But they were there. Maybe they were moved to Barbie and Ken's Dream House. Maybe we need to invade Barbie and Ken's Dream House to find them.

23. Not the manufacturer's fault
Apparently the manufacturer was duped about what the box was to contain by double-agents from another toy company. "Even Hasbro said it was going to contain WMDs," said company spokesman Ari Fliescher.
