Guys, Kerry is gonna win!
I am probably the most paranoid person ever alive with all my doomsday predictions and civil unrest theories when * tries to steal the election again, but seriously. I think now that we're down to the final week, we need to have just a teeny bit of faith in the American people (at least a small percentage of them who are needed to tip the election our way) and think good thoughts.

I live in the "Bible belt" of Pennsylvania, a notorious swing state which has elected Rick Santorum to the US Senate :puke: BUT, within the last week, Kerry signs have been cropping up EVERYWHERE. My busy local route home should be just littered and plastered with * signs. Know how many there are? Four. Along a 10 mile stretch of road.

Remember what Michael Moore wrote not too long ago about all the hand-wringing? He said to remember there is something very real boiling in this country, and it ain't love for G-Dub. We have all waited four long years for this day to come and I doubt every one of us who protested * in one way or another are just going to roll over and die now. We need to stop listening to the phoney polls that constantly oversample Republicans and do our part to get Kerry elected. Just picture the celebration on here when the headlines are "KERRY WINS"! Can you imagine? Picture * looking with that blank stare as John Forbes Kerry is sworn in as the next President!

Visualization WORKS, and we should all plan to meet according to that pledge we all signed - meeting in DC on the 3rd I believe if anything goes down. But, let's have a little faith in our candidate who is a GOOD man and deserves us working for him and not predicting all that could go wrong and how they'll cheat, etc etc. We'd be much better served taking that few minutes and writing a letter to the editor, calling a friend who might need to be reminded to vote, etc.

I know it may not be my place, but why don't we just take a deep breath and work our asses off the next week. If anything goes down, we'll be prepared, but we shouldn't center the next week on all the hand-wringing and doomsday theories. The momentum is SO on our side right now, and when Clinton hits the trail with Kerry this week...the GOP will be running scared! The more we sit here and worry about every scenario, the more the momentum swings to *'s side. So stop! Let's picture a devastating Kerry victory EVERY DAY from now until November 2nd, get out there, work hard, and kick some GOP ass!

~Melissa (on her way to an Election Day training session!)

8. I know, I do too!
We can be anxious, but we can't let all the conspiracy theories rule the next week. It's silly and pointless, and won't help Kerry get elected - it only distracts us so the Bushites can seize on our weakness.

We're almost there! We need to be strong, keep fighting, keep thinking positively and GOTV, GOTV, GOTV!! :)

4. Damn right!
We have every reason to feel positive. We just have to keep on getting out the vote and fighting. If Bush, God forbid, does win, at least we won't go down w/o a fight.

6. Amen!
Hope you're right, friesianrider. We live in rural PA, too. Akron, in Lancaster county. We spend summers in Yellowstone, and won't get back until after the election, so we haven't seen the signs.

We sent out absentee ballots back the day after they arrived here in WY. They were delayed over the Nader thing. What's the latest news on him being off or on the ballot?

Thanks for the good news.

9. But will getting more votes be enough?
It wasn't in 2000, and these guys didn't steal that election just to roll over and play nice for this one.

Hold onto your hats, people, it's going to be a bumpy ride:

THE ONCOMING TSUNAMI -- will you be ready?

12. See? Bitching about Diebold does NOTHING.
We're all ready if something goes down. But why can't we stop with the conspiracy theories for just one week and see what happens? I have a feeling they will cheat, but the turnout will be so monumental, it won't matter.

We all know what's going on, but sitting here bitching about it does NOTHING to help Kerry. Wait and see and if something seems fishy we'll all be ready for it, but until then, chill out and go do something POSITIVE to elect Kerry.

15. uh, Diebold is not a conspiracy theory
Conspiracy theories, are, like, secrets. When Wally of Diebold writes an open letter to his shareholders pledging to deliver the state of OH to Bush, that's hardly conspiracy theory.

I think naive "visualize Kerry winning!" is no more helpful than bitching about Diebold. At least bitching about Diebold is informative to people who have somehow managed to miss out on the BBV initiatives until now.

18. Everyone and their brother knows about Diebold..
And I'm sick to death of hearing about how * is evil - WE KNOW. WE ALL KNOW.

And yes, being more positive IS more helpful than bitching about Diebold. What does the latter solve? Nothing. If we all think more positively, it will help.

I think some people on this board need to get out of their Hellhole and depression and quit whining so much. I'm not saying no one is allowed to talk about Diebold or voting irregularities - of course. But if you'll re-read my original post - slowly - you'll see that I';m saying we should FOCUS on being positive and NOT focus on bitching and complaining about how we're all gonna lose because of reason A or reason B. We have every reason to believe we'll win.

If you want to sit and wallow and cry about Diebold and all the other problems you go right ahead, but I for one am not going to spend the last week doing it with you.

31. re:
"We have every reason to believe we'll win."

I disagree, that is wishful thinking. Unless you mean "believe" in a metaphysical unsubstantiated form. We are dealing with a corrupt bunch of crooks who already perpetrated one coup d'estat and are looking for another. The best I hope for is that it will be settled in courts in Kerry's favor because he seems to be legally prepared.
These people will stop at nothing, think about the quote from Ron Suskind's article in last week's NY Times

"The aide said that guys like me were ''in what we call the reality-based community,'' which he defined as people who ''believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality.'' I nodded and murmured something about enlightenment principles and empiricism. He cut me off. ''That's not the way the world really works anymore,'' he continued. ''We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality -- judiciously, as you will -- we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.''

And no, not everyone and their mother knows about Diebold. Maybe most people on this board do, but every day I come across people who are shocked when I tell them about it, like I am talking about something out of a bad sci-fi futuristic movie.

"If we all think more positively, it will help."
how? Telling people about Diebold and to watch for monkey business at the polls and report it to organizations that are dealing with it is helpful. I agree that thinking positively may be personally helpful to us to deal with the stress, but I don't see how it will help with the election in any real way.

I have done PLENTY of positive things to get Kerry elected. Including informing people of Diebold's activities and promoting awareness about Bev Harris and BBV.

19. Well great, but "spreading awareness" doesn't exactly help Kerry per se...
Spreading awareness about BBV is fine but it does just that - just spreads awareness about BBV. IMHO, it really helps Kerry little, if at all.

What helps Kerry is writing letters to the editor, canvassing, making phone calls, putting out yard signs, spreading his message and plans for the future, etc.

But whatever - if you think complaining about Diebold and talking about BBV is gonna in some way help get Kerry elected, more power to you; at least you're doing something. I just think our time would be better spent in activities that directly help Kerry.

20. I think it helps Kerry
I don't know if you are aware of the Clean Up Crew with BBV and their coordinations for election monitoring, but any monkeying with ballots or at the polls is immediately reported to them and they coordinate with observers and legal teams.

"What helps Kerry is writing letters to the editor, canvassing, making phone calls, putting out yard signs, spreading his message and plans for the future, etc."

Sure, all of that helps, so does protesting, and alternative media, which I am heavily involved in. But at this point, a few days before the election making sure people are aware of the Diebold corruption is the most important issue, or one of them.

13. My NC Story
I drove from westward along the I-40 corridor from Raleigh, NC to Asheville, NC on Friday morning. To alleviate the tedium, I decided to count Kerry and Bush stickers on cars.

Would you believe I counted Kerry 48, Bush 13?

I'd never spent much time in Asheville NC before, but I certainly will again. There's a very strong artist community there (check out the Lexington scene!), and the pro-Kerry sentiment was VERY strong. Driving around town and into outlying areas, Kerry signs and stickers were FAR more visible than * paraphernalia.

In the city center on Friday afternoon, a silent protest by a dozen or so "women in black" was going on, opposing violence against women. Amazingly, there were 2 or 3 Shrubbies there, holding up signs to traffic.

In retrospect, I really should have taken pictures and distributed them widely. On one side, a dozen women in black, holding a large sign condemning violence against women. Among them, 2 or 3 stereotypical redneck morans holding Bush-Cheney signs in protest. A picture is indeed worth 1000 words...

The latest Waterman Poll shows Kerry's lead becoming too large for Bush to pull out a win. State by state, this shows that the electoral vote will make Kerry a clear winner.

25. What great inspiration
Edited on Sun Oct-24-04 10:11 PM by Malachi5
Like Melissa who started this thread, I'm also from PA. I teach in Philadelphia, and live in the suburbs. There is a rumbling of political activity occurring everywhere here. We know this is battleground state central and everyone is getting swept up in the fervor of it all. It's an exciting feeling. This has been a grassroots campaign unlike one that has ever been seen before. Organizations are reaching out, Democrats are coming from states far and wide to canvass our neighborhoods, and people have the natural instinct to just get up off of their asses to get involved. This is a time of revolution in our political consciousness, and I'm proud to be fighting the battle in the place where our nation was born. Let's follow the flow of this wave of inspiration to victory on November 2.
