Springsteen plugged Al Franken's book Saturday night
At Springsteen's show at Giants Stadium in New Jersey Saturday night Bruce gave a plug for Al Franken's book following his little speech about questioning the country's leaders. People in the Springsteen fan group in usenet (rec.music.artists.springsteen) have mentioned it, and some right wingers (who probably never understood "Born In the USA" was a protest song) are already whining about it.

Doesn't seem like Franken needs the boost, as he's already on top of the best seller list, but it's totally cool that Bruce plugged the book from the stage of a stadium.

1. We may have lost Neal Young, but at least Bruce is still a lefty
I wonder if the neocon shock jocks will start trashing Springsteen CDs next?

2. check out Greendale
Neil HATES Bush, and his new Greendale album will show you why.

Neil is his own person - no slave to ideological correctness is he. Not for anyone to pigeonhole, whether it was his misguided defense of Reagan in the 80's, or his slamming of Poppy in "Rockin' In The Free World".

5. WTF
I'll take your word for that, but it seems he is back in the fold now. I think it was Iraq that convinced him of the error of his ways.

12. Here are some lyrics and a link.
As far as I can tell (haven't heard it yet) the significant part of Greendale is the song Sun Green:

SUN GREEN

Sun Green started makin' waves
On the day that Grandpa died
Speakin' out against anything
Unjust or packed with lies
She chained herself to a statue of an eagle
In the lobby of Power Co.

And started yelling through a megaphone,
"There's corruption on the highest floor."
Suits poured out of elevators
"You're all dirty."

Phoneheads began to speak
"You can't trust any of them."
Security couldn't get her down
She was welded to the eagle's beak.

Sun Green leaned into that megaphone, said,
"Truth is all I seek."
Security brought in some blow torches
News cameras recorded her speech,
"When the city is plunged into darkness
by an unpredicted rolling blackout

The White House always blames the governor
Saying the solution is to vote him out."
On top of that great bronze eagle
Sun's voice was loud and clear. She said,
"Power Co's working with the White House
to paralyze our state with fear."

It was a golden moment
In the history of TV news
No one could believe it
It just got great reviews

"Hey, Mr. Clean, you're dirty now, too.
Hey, Mr. Clean, you're dirty now, too.
Hey, Mr. Clean, you're dirty now, too.
Hey, Mr. Clean, you're dirty now, too."

3. Celebrities should speak out more. Janeane Garafalo said..
that when she started speaking her mind against the BushNazis, her agent flinched. But then she was well received and got a big lift in her career. In a recent interview, she said that all celebrities need to know that, unlike the 50's, there is NO blacklist in Hollywood today. "The only sin in Hollywood today is growing old and fat." !!!!! Imagine the change in political climate if celebrities regularly came out swinging!
BRUUUCE!

7. I hate to plug VH1 or MTV, but...
Bruce makes a cameo in the Warren Zevon documentary that's been airing recently. Bruce fans should check it out, if not for Warren being a supreme lyricist & all around funny guy. Hell Bobby Zimmerman has been covering more than 1 Zevon songs in his recent tour dates. How cool is that!

Politically and musically.

13. Bruce and Al are old buddies.
And I have heard they are for the same candidate. Someone with a longtime liberal record.

14. Bruce is AWESOME
I still have an old New York Times Magazine Article from 96 or 97 that said he was this generation's Woody Guthrie and talked about how he stopped making "Born in the USA" type of music to focus on social causes and making music for and about the common working man.

Go get the "Ghost of Tom Joad" album for some of his best solo acoustic stuff that deals with the plight of migrant workers.

Bruce is a die-hard Democrat and always has been. Like I've said before, there is no more solid Democratic State than the great state of New Jersey.

:)
