Hard to Keep Track of the Dead in Iraq

Amid increasing suspicions that the U.S. media have been underestimating Iraqi casualties, here are the latest more or less reliable figures culled from several sources, including the government:
Iraq Body Count (iraqbodycount.net) reported that the number of civilian deaths in Iraq ranges from 6,113 to 7,830. Military.com reports that as of August 28 a total of 281 U.S. soldiers have been killed since the start of the invasion-that includes 143 since major fighting was declared "over" on May 1. The Iraq Coalition Casualty Count (lunaville.org/warcasualties/summary.aspx), based on tallies from Centcom, the Defense Department, and the British Ministry of Defence, shows that, as of August 27, 281 U.S. soldiers, 50 British soldiers, and two "other" coalition soldiers have been reported killed. The estimated wounded? 1,212.

3. thought it might be useful

to post the paragraph where the higher number is mentioned.

"Al-Obaidi told Wanniski that "hundreds of our party's cadre" spent five weeks interviewing undertakers, hospital officials, and ordinary citizens in all of Iraq (except for what's controlled by the Kurds) and came up with a total figure of 37,137 civilians killed since the beginning of the invasion, 6,103 of them in Baghdad. Those figures, according to al-Obaidi, do not include members of unofficial militias, paramilitary groups, or Saddam's Fedayeen units."

4. Most of the US media use a formula similar to the US Constitution's
formula that made a slave equal to 3/5 of a person. In this case, the approved formula is one that says a dead Iraqi civilian equals 0/5 of a person. Whether or not one supported the war, one should acknowledge the human cost. War is not a video game no matter how hard we try to convince ourselves it is.

add to this the number of Iraqi soldiers killed. ...all can be laid at the feet of the BFEE and the media.
(on edit) oops.. I left out most of Congress and, sad to say, many of the American people (who I guess come in last on the list because they were lied to).

8. Anybody still think the price of Saddam being deposed was worth it?
The Iraq situation could have easily been handled more effectively. And the Intelligence department was utterly stupid for not foreseeing ANY of what had happened; most of which was rather obvious and predictable by even a 10 year old.

They allowed the looting and were told NOT to interfere. All the American soldiers then pulled a Nuremburg and said "Jus' doin' my job and what I was told." (And didn't Bush say something similar a few months prior about wanting all the Iraqi military to surrender and saying "Just doing my job" wasn't going to cut any ice?! :eyes: )

They guarded oil wells while leaving nuclear facilities unguarded for over a month. I won't feel sad if a dirty nuke gets deployed in America. It was Bush's* fault for allowing it to happen. I'll cry over the loss of life, but Bush* will have allowed it to happen. I'll even risk losing my job to cry out demonstrating in rallies to get the bastard* impeached if that is the case. (My employer is keen on getting rid of folks who demonstrate and end up locked up for a night because of it... they don't say it directly but they've written it up very cagily in the code of conduct we're supposed to adhere to. And in such a way they can get away with it.)

They stage stunts like pulling down statues with the cameras zoomed in just to show hand-picked groups of people huddled around.

They put American flags on flag poles and hoist them up. Not just once either, so their excuses of "it was an accident" is a load of smelly cack of a disgusting outright LIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :grr:

Then come terror acts, all of which are naturally the fault of Al Quaeda and not the citizens who are truly pissed at the ineptitude of Bushbastard* and want to make lives for the Americans there as miserable as their own lives, which were uprooted by Bushbastard's* regime. (Sorry, Shrubbypants* is too cute for the Luzer-in-Chief. Bushbastard* says how I feel about the imbecile.)

Of course, Iraq is turning more and more into a loss everyday. Like other people have said, we're due for another terror attack or distraction, or even finding another country to bomb the shit out of. It's a toss right now between N Korea, Iran, and Syria. Bush will naturally try to spin events to make it look like the US is doing a just act - but as they couldn't with Iraq, fewer will believe this nutjob* this time around, fortunately.

Bush's* warmongering is going to kill us all with his petty anger and arrogance. Even his rich business buddies' greenbacks won't save their worthless asses. Ambilivance is how I feel. Not only has Bush divided this country's citizens, there are probably plenty of citizens whose very souls are divided.

Hurry up 2004, the sooner the voters legally depose Bush* the better.
