What I face in my hobby
First, let me say getting enough posts so I can start my own thread is great. Yeahhhh.

With that out of the way, I want to show you what I am up against in my hobby. Let me explain. I am an avid off-roader (Jeep/Scout four wheel vehicle). I used to be an extreme hiker, runner and environmentalist but an illness took that away. So, to find a way to still get out in the backwoods away from it all, I picked up on four-wheeling. The majority of us are very responsible, stick to EXISTING trails and even go so far as to scrub rocks with biodegradeable clensers at the end of the season. Heck, most of us adhere so much to the pack it in/pack it out theory we even carry out our own human waste (if you know what I mean).

Anyway, the vast majority of people I hang out with are so extreme they make Freepers look like raving Marxists. I am always arguing with them and am always the one who has to back up everything I say with facts and links and such. It gets tiring, but I live for passionate political discourse. I also must admit I am a bit of a hawk on some foreign matters so sometimes I do come down to the right of some of these people (I'm being kind here), but I though the Iraq invasion was wrong and illegal ;)

Anyway, this is a link to what I put up with. There are a few of us who speak up, but sometimes we just avoid frothing at the mouth rabid animals like this guy.

Why must I torture myself and argue with these people just for, what I consider it most of the time, the fun of it.

Thanks for letting me blow off steam to people who understand :)

6. He would be the first to cut and run if somebody decided...
...that they had enough of his crap.

"Keyboard courage", nothing more than that.

3. I read that thread and I'm convinced...
most people are choosing up sides like we're re-fighting the Hatfield-McCoy struggle, and most people are completely misinformed about everything

4. Welcome
Welcome Curtis!

It does get tiring fighting these freeper-types. I have found that most cannot defend Bush* -- they resort to one-liners and 9/11. Pathetic and weak-minded. They don't even know why they're voting for him. Pass the Kool-Aid.

:hi:

5. Really sceeery! Hard to believe these people
are Americans, isn't it. I kept wanting to post a reply but my cooler head prevailed; don't want to associate with 'that'.

7. It is interesting...
How some can become so knowledgeable in a hobby but refuse to question any of their own political preconceptions or opinions. Consulting a manual for your vehicle of choice is automatic. Researching the Bush admins efforts at anti-terrorism (or rather the lack of it) pre 9/11 is not only beyond the scope of most rightards, it is a sacrelege.

Being a rightard is an emotional state. A neurosis. A personality disorder. It's a deliberate form of ignorance. It ain't fuckin' normal.

Yup. It's a pain in the ass when your hobby is peopled with such morAns. But it's cool when you run into some lefty gearhead types. You will.
