Al wants us all to email our support for Lawrence to MSNBC
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 01:19 PM by DanaM
(catwoman: I stole your subject line). Franken has posted the details and the link to MSNBC for those who would like to support Odonnell's (sp) confrontation of John Oneill on the epic lying used by the swiftboat group in the campaign against John Kerry. http://www.airamericaradio.com/weblogs/alfrankenshow/

Sorry for the confusion ... I was acting on this thread. Thought that the issue was important enough for its own thread.

4. O’Donnell called Swiftie O’Neill a liar and a filth purveyor on MSNBC
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 01:30 PM by papau
Since Lawrence O'Donnel is correct - and can be proved correct by reference to http://www.factcheck.org/article.aspx@docID=231.html http://abcnews.go.com/Nightline/print?id=166434 http://www.boston.com/news/politics/president/articles/2004/03/21/the_anatomy_of_a_smear_campaign/

and is now subject to a hate email campaign, the poster is suggesting emails in support of O'Donnel be sent to the email addresses below:

joe@msnbc.com

letters@msnbc.com

:-)

SAMPLE LETTER BELOW - FEEL FREE TO USE

On Joe's show on MSNBC, Lawrence O’Donnell called Swiftie O’Neill a liar and a filth purveyor - and since that is a correct statement, please congratulate Joe for finally using his airtime to spread a bit of truth. Giving airtime to such scum as the liars in the O'Neill Swift Boat Ads is a poor decision, but thank God Joe had Lawrence O'Donnel on to call a spade a spade, and let the viewer know the truth.

will clear up any questions about just how big a scumbag O'Niell really is. Just for the record:
1. Factcheck.org “ features vets who claim Kerry ‘lied’ to get Vietnam medals. But other witnesses disagree-and so do Navy records.”
Factcheck.org notes that one of the key vets who signed a statement against Kerry wound up retracting it, saying to The Boston Globe: “It was a terrible mistake probably for me to sign the affidavit with those words. I’m the one in trouble here.... I knew it was wrong… In a hurry I signed it and faxed it back. That was a mistake.”
2. Jim Rassman, the army lieutenant saved by Kerry during a firefight, directly contradicted many of the claims made by the Swift Boat Vets. Rassman supported Kerry’s Bronze Star and has always backed up Kerry’s version of the story.
3. The Swift Boat Vets are politically funded by a major GOP donor, and are going after Kerry decades after the action in order to help their candidate-George W. Bush-retain control of the White House.
4. Nightline's research of the facts of a Kerry firefight denied by the Swift Boat Vets, by talking to local villagers who had witnessed the battle, showed that not only was Kerry’s version of the story correct, but the “Swift Boat Vets for Truth” had actually sent a researcher to Vietnam, gotten the same facts-and then buried them.
Congratualations to Joe for having O’Donnell on - and congratualtions to O’Donnell who made clear he was not defaming all vets, or indeed any vet, and did so without losing control, showing only the righteous anger that should be the response to one of the ugliest smear campaigns since the Bush hatchet job of McCain in S.C. in 2000.

7. Done! Here's mine:
I've been watching politics since the Vietnam era, so I'm familiar with John O'Neill's personal vendetta against John Kerry. I was pleasantly surprised when Lawrence O'Donnell confronted O'Neill in the way O'Neill deserves to be confronted. It is terribly wrong that O'Neill, who is a proven liar, should be given any airtime for his smear campaign. I can't tell you how glad I was to hear Mr. O'Donnell's outrage against O'Neill -- he spoke for many Americans who are tired of seeing O'Neill get yet another opportunity to spread his filth. And shame on Pat Buchanan for trying to rein in Mr. O'Donnell.

In their later years, Richard Nixon & Charles Colson (who recruited O'Neill for the purpose of countering John Kerry) apologized to Kerry "for any harm they may have caused him" -- why can't O'Neill recognize the wrong that he's done? I see him as craving his perpetual 15 minutes of fame. He's an obnoxious creep, as Lawrence O'Donnell appropriately put it.

I watched O'Neill on "Nightline", in which the Swift Boat Vets' version of Kerry's Vietnam experience was effectively refuted by villagers who had witnessed key events. It is important to note that the Swift Boat Vets for "Truth" had actually sent a researcher of their own to Vietnam & they had gotten the same facts, yet they buried them.

Lawrence O'Donnell, like many Americans, had a right to be outraged by O'Neill's smear campaign against John Kerry. It's not hard to see that O'Neill is working on behalf of another "Nixon": George Bush, who did not go to the front lines in Vietnam like John Kerry did.

Aren't you as offended as I am that John Kerry's service is being attacked so horribly? John Kerry should be attacking O'Neill's choice of candidate, but Kerry has something O'Neill doesn't have: character.

O Donnell owned O Neill. He was a beast. I thought it was great.
