Any recommendations for morning news television programs?
I am in the habit of watching this utter piece of excrement called "American Morning" on CNN. It's awful in just about every way. But the most irritating thing is this jerk Jack Cafferty, who is literally the last human being on the planet that I would want in my home before I've had my morning coffee.

So, is there anything better out there? Or is it all crap?

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

1. I wasn't aware that ANY news was offered in the morning...
...just the usual NeoCon propaganda offered by the usual NeoCon media shills.

2. Washington Journal
I hear ya about morning news shows.

Washington Journal is about the best compromise I've been able to make.
Even then, I have to hit mute when some idiot RW caller makes me too crazy.

Whatever you do, PLEASE free yourself from CNN!!

5. I may have to try that.
Washington Journal is irritating in its own way, but I suppose it may be a tolerable compromise.

32. Yup. I'll second that. Washington Journal is topical.
I listen to the Bushbots and marvel at how quickly and thoroughly they pick up the disinformation that the GOPropagandists spew daily. The Fascist propaganda machine has made an art of composing one-liners that embed themselves in the Bushbot brain-pan. Their programming would make the Borg green with envy. The hive mentality is fascinating.

9. I wish there was a TV version of NPR
NPR isn't perfect, but it's better than just about everything else. It's my radio station of choice when I'm in my car. But I'm not in the habit of listening to the radio in my home.

I've never listened to WTOP. I'll have to try that.

7. "Washington Journal" on C-SPAN,

though the wingnuts who call in can make Cafferty look sane. At least, though, they're not on the payroll like Mad Jack.

I just turned on C-SPAN. It doesn't appear to be showing Washington Journal right now.

11. Also, BBC America has a half hour of news at 6 and 8, I think it is.

And CNS -- the network Al Gore was supposedly buying -- has sane broadcasts from various sources (Canadian, German, Japanese.)

LINK TV has a German news show, plus MOSAIC (a collage of news broadcasts from the Middle East, complete with graphic war footage), plus "Democracy Now" with Amy Goodman twice a day.

I had to give up CNN after their behavior during the DNC -- and never could stand to watch Cafferty.

31. The thing I like about Direct TV is that we get BBC, LINK,

C-SPAN, and NWI for news, plus IFC and TCM for movies -- and the Comedy Channel for "The Daily Show." Aside from a couple of network shows and HGTV, I don't watch anything else.

I wish LINK would broadcast "Democracy Now" earlier in the day. It's a perfect show to have on while working because it IS a radio show. Of course, "Washington Journal" might as well be on radio, too.

14. Don't.
That would be my advice. I listen to Air America in the morning. Actually, I listen to AAR all day long. . . and I limit my Cable News viewing these days to Keith Olbermann, Lou Dobbs, and Jon Stewart. Occasionally, I'll turn on Tweety to see which multiple personality of his has surfaced for the day, just out of curiosity. But that's it.

15. The problem with that is...
I have to do my "morning rounds" on DU first thing in the morning. It takes me about two or three hours to do all the stuff I gotta do here in the morning. I can't read the paper while I'm reading DU. But I like to have some TV news going on as "background noise" so I know what the big stories are.

17. I've started watching/listening...
I turn the tv on out of habit. I put it on HBO or Comedy Central on mute, making sure that no "news" network get my ratings then I turn on Air America Radio on my computer. That's how I have been getting through the last couple of weeks. Good Luck

Security", W's diary" "Iraq - Birth of a Nation" , the fax with the Barbara Streissand marching orders.
A while ago they had "Bill in Harlem" and "William in Chapaqua" calling (the Clinton 2 personalities - serious an party animal. It was rib splittingly funny.
They have great guests - Greg palast was on yesterday. Not much of interviewers either of them - Sue Elicott used to be good at that, but the guests are good on theor own.

watch the absolute worst potentially political program on. I'm not sure what that might be, since I refuse to buy cable, but I think Fox News has some morning show, now.

I think it's important to keep tabs on what the Repug talking points, that will be used all across TV by their surrogates and brainlessly accepted by their watchers, will be.

Just don't tell Nielsen that you watch them. :silly:

IMUS is a repulsive toad. (I don't like to demean animals by attaching their identity to repulsive humans, but...)

Where does he get off commenting on other people's honesty, character, looks, or any number of things. This morning he was out-doing his own repulsiveness, calling JK all kinds of synonyms for "liar" while claiming to support him. He also disrupts the guests who are setting him straight, interrupting with off-topic crap and breaking the train of their thought.

The network shows are drivel. I liked COURIC for awhile but LAUER cancels her out.

C-SPAN is bland and rigidly structured with the tit-for-tat callers.

And then there is Faux's Faux-&-Fiends. The babbling of the 3 heads all over one another plus the wingnut talking points, same stories multiple times per half hour are insufferable.

Sorry, it's a wasteland.

On edit: Wow! for the avatar.

33. You have identified an enormous void in the market
Some halfway credible news program for the A.M. on TV would be great.

I look forward to Olberman in the evening as a don't miss news program, finally we have something in the evening.

Would be nice if something similar could be arranged in the morning.

I can't think of anything in the morning involving news that is worth watching either.
