Jerry Springer stumps for Kerry
Jerry Springer goes door-to-door for his candidate, John Kerry

A surprised Winthrop Street resident gives Jerry Springer a big hug when the celebrity shows up unannounced at her door.

Talk-show host Jerry Springer joked that he had quite a costume as he went door-to-door in Toledo last night asking people to support Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry at the polls tomorrow.
Mr. Springer met with members of the local Services Employees International Union at the UAW Local 12 hall on Ashland Avenue near Bancroft Street before taking to the streets to campaign as the sun set on Halloween.

"I'm dressed like this Jerry Springer guy," the former mayor of Cincinnati said as he walked through the neighborhood. "And I've got the best costume."

~~~~~~~~
Democrats are sending 160 Toledo-area lawyers, 90 out-of-state lawyers, and 50 law students to the polls to observe. Party officials have said none of the lawyers will challenge any votes.
1. He's really a great guy, I met him ages ago.
Too bad he let avarice get in the way of that. First vote I cast, in the spring of 1982, was for him, he was in the Democratic primaries for Ohio governor. I met him (and Dick Celeste, the guy who beat him in the primary) on State Government Day (it was a Scripps-Howard sponsored event in Ohio, for school newspaper editors; the Democratic candidates met us, the Republican incumbent 'didn't have time,' if I recall correctly).
His opponent won, and I voted for him -- but the first vote I ever cast was for Gerald Springer (he was still going by that in Ohio, 22 years ago).
3. I don't know -- I quit watching when he moved from ...
Johnny Carson-style variety show to Barnum and Bailey Human Circus. He's a really good interviewer, once he bailed out on that kind of stuff I bailed out on him. Shame, really.
