Anyone noticing that "EVERYBODY thinks Reagan was great?"
I've notice the RepubliCONs adding a short quip that EVERYONE AGREES that Reagan was a great president. I've heard it twice now. I'm wondering what they are up to.

I ignored this same feeling I have now when I heard them say that everybody knows Saddam has weapons of mass destruction and it was just too convoluted to refute it on the spot.

PS, I don't think Reagan was a great president. I thought he was a rotten president. They probably want to rename ANWR to the Reagan National Oil Pipeline Refuge.

37. What was so great about Reagan?
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 06:33 AM by mirandawright
I was pretty apolitical in those days...until Reagan cut student loans. I never forgave him for that. I shed no tears when he died.

61. 66 about 666
I got ousted permanently from another Bulletin Board for posting 66 items that Reagan REALLY did whilst the majority were crying like girlie men over his death.

The firing of the air traffic controllers, winnable nuclear war,
recallable nuclear missiles, trees that
cause pollution, Elliott Abrams lying
to Congress, ketchup as a vegetable,
colluding with Guatemalan thugs,
pardons for F.B.I. lawbreakers,
voodoo economics, budget deficits,
toasts to Ferdinand Marcos, public
housing cutbacks, redbaiting the
nuclear freeze movement, James
Watt.

Getting cozy with Argentine fascist
generals, tax credits for segregated
schools, disinformation campaigns,
"homeless by choice," Manuel
Noriega, falling wages, the HUD scandal, air
raids on Libya, "constructive engagement"
with apartheid South Africa, United States
Information Agency blacklists of liberal
speakers, attacks on OSHA and workplace
safety, the invasion of Grenada, assassination
manuals, Nancy's astrologer.

female appointees (8 percent), mining harbors,
the S&L scandal, 239 dead U.S. troops in
Beirut, Al Haig "in control," silence on AIDS,
food-stamp reductions, Debategate, White
House shredding, Jonas Savimbi, tax cuts for
the rich, "mistakes were made."

Michael Deaver's conviction for influence
peddling, Lyn Nofziger's conviction for
influence peddling, Caspar Weinberger's
five-count indictment, Ed Meese ("You don't
have many suspects who are innocent of a
crime"), Donald Regan (women don't
"understand throw-weights"), education cuts,
massacres in El Salvador.

"The bombing begins in five minutes," $640
Pentagon toilet seats, African-American
judicial appointees (1.9 percent), Reader's
Digest, C.I.A.-sponsored car-bombing in
Lebanon (more than eighty civilians killed),

7. The right wing's aim...
... for thirty years or more has been to rewrite history. It's part of their aim to create new American heroes, and Reagan is foremost on their list in that regard.

They're good at revisionist history, but only at the PR side of it. Historians have already placed Reagan in the indifferent middle of history.

17. Lesson -- we must make sure that the GOP
doesn't turn bushie into super hero -- or some such crap -- like they have been able to do with Raygun.

Raygun was a horrible Governor -- he had students beat up and gassed.

He had cops threaten students just trying to go to class. Cops pointed their guns at students, called them names and told them to leave the campus. The cops were operating under orders from Raygun -- he wanted to bag his limit on students -- just like the Governor of Ohio was involved in the murder of students at Kent state.

Then Raygun was involved in Iran-Contra and some of the bad guys that papa bush pardoned at the end of his 4 year reign -- are involved in the bushie administration.

This time the evil ones must pay for their crimes against humanity.

1.Iran contra-IMO it was treason
2.support and armed Saddam, even gave him the germs for gas wmd
3.didn't say anything when Saddam gassed his own people
4.vetoed the fairness doctrine which helped destroy our media,
Faux,Rush, hannity and countless other neo conservative talking heads would not be allowed to get away with calling them selves journalist, would also force them to always have both sides represented.
5.gave 300 million to Osama Bin Laden also CIA trained Osama Bin Laden to fight the soviets in Afghanistan, then forgot about the country when the soviets were defeated.
6.Made liberal into a bad word, amongst the uninformed
7.started a Drug war that is ruining south America,I am Anti drug but the way we run the drug war only makes drug lords more wealthy and puts innocent addicts in prison
8.stupid ass star wars project that only Moran's think would work(Like Bush)
9.Refused to get rid of nukes when the soviets offered to do so as long as we did to,Made no real effort to employ soviet Nuclear scientist,IMO this made it passable for many nations to feel they needed to arm themselves with nukes also making it possible for them to do so.
10.Reagan is a huge reason we are in the mess we are in now,Repubs seem to have a way with creating enemy's or problems that affect future administrations.

28. As far as they're concerned, everyone does.
Everyone who matters, anyway. Anyone who thinks differently is beneath notice and off of their radar. Much of the time, when people say "everybody", they only really mean members of their own particular group/clique. For example: wealthy person saying "Oh, but EVERYBODY summers in the Hamptons now. It's just SO overdone. I'm taking a villa on the Cote d'Azur this season, myself." When it is patently untrue that this is something EVERYBODY does, it's obvious that all the people someone like this considers worthy of notice are the "everybody" being referred to.

45. Buttressing their claims to ideological superiority...
through ties to historical greatness. They KNOW Reagan, as a man, as a President, as a political embodiment, is of nowhere near the stature of Franklin Roosevelt, America's greatest President and champion of liberalism. So they are attempting to artificially inflate his stature. It's the Josef Goebbels technique...repeat a lie often enough, and it becomes the truth. And a big lie is easier to get away with than a small one.

29. I think he was a TRAITOR for negotiating with Iran...
...regarding the hostages when Carter was still President.

It's basically established fact that Reagan asked the Iranians to hold onto those poor people until after the Inauguration -- in return for which they'd get to buy a bunch of American arms, secretly.

This money was then recycled into an illegal war effort in Central America, the Contras of Nicaragua.

How soon everybody forgets that Reagan really did betray the American people, even before he took office.

He is no great man, no great President -- and I actually do tend to think that the Universe visited a certain karmic punishment upon him during his last 15-odd years of life.

great things did he do. She answered "A lot of things", I asked for specifics and she just said,"A lot of things". I then told her of union breaking, high unemployment, record deficits, members of his administration imprisoned for corporate theft, among other things, selling arms to the enemy, creating the homeless problem in this country, turning and running from terrorists in Beruit after they killed 300+ marines in a bombing attack, aiding the Contras in Nicaragua who in turn funded their cause with cocaine traffiking to the US. " Just what did Reagan do that was great" I asked. She responded, "He was just a great president" and ended the conversation.

55. It does raise W's stature a little.
It can quickly imply that Bush may not be as good as Reagan, but since Reagan is held in esteem by everyone Bush can be pretty good. It's sneaky. They'd love it.

It's a good answer. When they did this with the WMDs it was a setup for being able to later say that everyone agreed, that is, no one objected. At which later time they can sneak an idea past in fewer words and it takes too long or is too convoluted for us to rebut while flapping gums fast on a Nightline.

Thanks prayin4rain. Hope you get as much as you want.

They haven't had a President of such a stature since Lincoln, yet the Democrats have had both FDR and JFK etched into the history books. Reagan is the best shot that the 'Pugs have of doing this(what, they're going to put Nixon, Ford, or Bushies up there:eyes:). Thus all of this frenzy to name things after him, put him on money etc. Truly pathetic.

Generally when some fool starts glorifying Reagan, I simply mention record defecits, Iran Contra, etc. Shuts them down quick.

56. I agree. He sucked as a president.
His son is pretty cool though.

57. I hope I hear somebody say that...
Because I'll speak up and say "THAT rotten bastard? The mutha-fucka that had the god-dam GALL to ask me if I was doin' better than I was 4 years earlier while I was figuring out how to make a pound of Gubbmint Cheeze last to the end of the month? THAT Reagan? I'd like to go to Collie-For-Nya and not only PISS on his grave, but SHIT on it, too!"

I would challenge, and challenge LOUDLY anyone who'd have the stupidity to claim "EVERYONE liked Reagan" within my hearing...

I don't care for Raymond, either....

64. YES! Just say NOT! anytime their operatives try it.
I would love to see it happen on TV where a fast talking RepubliCON tries to sneak in a Reagan accolade and a quick thinking honest person interjects a "NOT!" Not even interrupting, just a quick shot. If missed I hope they address it and not leave it hanging as repeat tested truth.

58. They NEED Reagan to be a hero. What the hell else do they have?
Nixon? Ford? Bush I? Not exactly an inspiring recent past.

65. True.
I still think they want to use the no objection defense for something down the road.

59. Great?
Great for S&L pilferers, corporate piracy and union busters. He was a collection of sound bites and PROOF that words have more appeal than action to most republican voters.

63. I ain't everybody
If there is a hell, may he rot in it and fuck him anyway. We wouldn't be going through this today but for his hideous and evil regime. Absolutely nothing good came from Reagan, genocide, rampant environmental degradation, shameless greed and filthy PNAC neocons.

Now I feel better.
