Molly Ivins vs David Brooks
Even David Brooks admitted that he might not vote for Bush - that is kind of a shocker. But then he said that Kerry had not done anything in his career that did not advance his career. That made me feel badly - because he doesn't seem like that kind of guy to me.

But I just read Molly's latest and she thinks Kerry is a great guy and was behind important government investigations that no one else even wanted to touch because they were so sensitive.

I love Molly Ivins. And if she says Kerry is a good guy - then Kerry is a good guy.

1. he thinks Kerry should have hurt his own career?
Actually Kerry took a big risk by taking on BCCI. That was a big bank, with lots of friends.

2. Kerry is a good guy! Imagine all those years in T. Kennedy's shadow...
of course he had to carve out his own niche, quietly maneuvering behind the scenes. And I love Molly Ivins, too.

4. I like David Brooks a lot more than other
conservative writers. He is even pro gay marriage. And he is Jewish. And this Bush thing has been hard on him. Bush really let a lot of good conservatives down.

But Molly is my favorite of them all. She calls a spade a spade and backs it up with facts.

She said she has known Bush since he was in highschool and cannot for the life of her figure out why people think he is the annointed one. Funny, funny way of looking at politics.

5. investigations that no one else even wanted to touch
Yes, investigations into criminal behavior being expressed by people in our, yes our government at the highest levels. Imagine that. Allowing criminal behavior to exist within our government is one of the primary reasons for the hatred towards America.

There isn't a whole lot of difference between what went on during the Nixon years and what is going on now... and we all know that JK had plenty of experience during that era in dealing with the criminal elements of our govt then.

Someday, when we establish a true democracy, where corporations bent on ruling the world (economically speaking) do not own our government... things will be better... they will be much better. Someday, people will have to realize that less is more... and that rabid consumerism is not the answer to the world's ills... never was, never will be.

6. THAT is a ridiculous statement on Kerry....
Senators represent the people in their state. Obviously the decisions that politicians make in DC should help advance their career because if they can't adequately represent their constitutes, then guess what? They get fired! Imagine that. So why wouldn't Kerry do anything that didn't advance his career when his entire career is based on representing other people? Don't even get me started on the fact that he signed up and went to war. Risked his LIFE for crying' out loud! Not exactly the safest way to advance a "career".

And while we're on the subject of personal gain: Halliburton much? War with Iraq much? Two unnecessary tax cuts for the privileged class? How are these NOT huge examples of Brooks' hypocrisy? How can he NOT see what Bush and Cheney have personally gained by their destructive decisions over the past 4 years??
