If Rove handled Democrats, would he still be a "genius"?

I had a little discussion with a friend today who thinks Rove is a PR genius. I disagree. I think he's had an easy job for two basic reasons:

1) Republicans campaign on fear and hatred, and anyone can do that.

2) The corporate media helps him sell his product.

If he were representing a Democrat, he'd be a laughing stock by now. Anyway- can anyone help me come with a few stupid Rove campaign tricks? I'd offer the "we're goin' to Mars!" bullshit.

He sold Bush to almost have the electorate not once but twice. Bush is the worst president ever. Bush is a complete fuck up and Rove managed to sell him as president. He is an evil genius.

...but if he was in Dem Party, it would have been fun to see ADs of * as a flipflop, traitor, drug sniffing alcoholic, and I am not even going into IRAQ and Abu Graib.
